It's not the fender you need to worry about, it's the front body mount.

And that's usually a 285/75.

so do you think 9 inch wide wheel will fair well in the wheel well? I dont plan to lift, and was looking at a set that is 17x9, was worried the 9 wide would bump things in the wheel well.

I'm watching you Hanzo...still no luck w/ this question I see. I know it sucks, but I think you're going to have to face reality. Good luck...but I think you should either lift or go for a much smaller width for those new rims. I know it's a tough pill to swallow sometimes...especially since it appears to have so much extra room in our FJ wheel wells. Damn the Rubbing Gods I say!!!

Re: I want larger rims and tires

Just remember that larger tires always equal:

-Longer stopping distances
-More frequent brake jobs
-Decrease in fuel mileage

Im not sure what choices I have in these wheels. I have seen a litany of sizes, but have no clue what I can and cant get away with. beyond the width issue there is also the Offset issue, it may not clear the calipers. Patience will reward me on this mod, I will keep researching till I have an answer.
