Re: body mount cutting and warranty??
The engineering of a vehicle not only incorporates sound manufacturing (we hope) but also ease/cost of the manufacturing process. Assuming that a modification such as the body mount mod as questioned her would somehow compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle is a giant leap. Toyota excels in the field due to their ability to produce vehicles with above average manufacturing reliability cheaper than most the other manufacturers. This is due to the extensive use of robotic assembly lines. I would guess that the FJ is no different.
I can't imagine Toyota engineers sitting around the table considering the fact that some owners would put a tire/wheel combination large enough that they would need to modify the manufacturing line to accomodate said owners. However, I can imagine them sitting around contemplating how much room they need in order to have a robotic arm attach components instead of having them installed by a human. As I see it, that is why there is the protrusion in the wheel well that needs to be modified in order to accomodate large tires. I don't see it as an engineering design to enhance structural integrity, just something which eases the manufacturing process.
Only time will tell if removing the small amount of metal to accomodate the larger tires creates an weak point which may lead to a non-covered warranty situation. If I really wanted such a mod, I would take my chances with the trim job but each of us has to evaluate the risk/reward of each mod. But, of course, I could be wrong and your FJ will fall apart as soon as you hit a bump after performing this mod...oops.
