body mount cutting and warranty??

Has anyone looked into warranty issues with modifying the body mounts?
I am considering it but am concerned because it is a structeral, will it affect warranty.I also wonder if in an accident it would affect insurance?

thanks

Weld a plate in and if you keep your mud flaps you cannot even tell.

Toyota will deny any related warranty claims. Guaranteed!

This statement is a little vague. Perhaps there might be some scenario where trimming the fat (so to speak) off the end of the body mount strut could weaken the structure slightly, but why would that effect the performance of the vehicle in the first place. Exactly which warranty claim would be "Related" to this work? If the body rusted off the frame, then perhaps.
Toyota is far more likely to deny your broken axle claim from having those HUGE ASS tires you are planning to put on there.

Silly. No warranty issues. Cut them. Now.

B.S.....If Toyota was truly that short sighted to void a warranty claim because of a trimmed body mount that had no effect on the item being warrantied would all of us on this forum even be driving a Toyota?

Re: body mount cutting and warranty??

the body mount will only affect the warranty of realated issues. For exmaple.. body falling apart? I don't know what could happen but if it does they can only void a repair if the damage is related to what you did to the vehicle.

There's an actual legal Act backing this up. So don't let them fool you.

Re: body mount cutting and warranty??

I am always amused at how people want to modify structural parts of a brand new vehicle. Toyota employs some of the top mechanical engineering talent, and owners want to modify a structural part? That body mount is engineered and manufactured to exact specifications for a reason. If you want to turn your FJ into an off road exclusive vehicle only, that's another matter.

Re: body mount cutting and warranty??

The engineering of a vehicle not only incorporates sound manufacturing (we hope) but also ease/cost of the manufacturing process. Assuming that a modification such as the body mount mod as questioned her would somehow compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle is a giant leap. Toyota excels in the field due to their ability to produce vehicles with above average manufacturing reliability cheaper than most the other manufacturers. This is due to the extensive use of robotic assembly lines. I would guess that the FJ is no different.

I can't imagine Toyota engineers sitting around the table considering the fact that some owners would put a tire/wheel combination large enough that they would need to modify the manufacturing line to accomodate said owners. However, I can imagine them sitting around contemplating how much room they need in order to have a robotic arm attach components instead of having them installed by a human. As I see it, that is why there is the protrusion in the wheel well that needs to be modified in order to accomodate large tires. I don't see it as an engineering design to enhance structural integrity, just something which eases the manufacturing process.

Only time will tell if removing the small amount of metal to accomodate the larger tires creates an weak point which may lead to a non-covered warranty situation. If I really wanted such a mod, I would take my chances with the trim job but each of us has to evaluate the risk/reward of each mod. But, of course, I could be wrong and your FJ will fall apart as soon as you hit a bump after performing this mod...oops.
