Upgrade package #2 & Running Boards

Well, I just heard from my dealer and they have their list of allocated FJCs. The first one on their list appears to be the one I preferenced except that it has the UP 1 instead of the UP 2. This only means that I am missing a subwoofer so it isn't that big of a deal. When I asked him if he had any FJCs coming in with UP2 he listed 3 and all 3 with UP2 had factory installed running boards, which means no preinstalled rock rails.

Has anyone else run into this?

Sorry to hear that granger. I was sort of worried we could run into this when a while back someone heard that a high % were coming with running boards.

Seems like almost everyone here wasnt rock rails and NOT running boards.

Since these are all Port options, is it not possible to just swap things as needed, or does this have to do with the TOYOTA MSRP/Spec sheet stuck on the window (I presume) when the car was built?

Maybe Toyotaman or the other sales people can speak to this.

That's the problem. The running boards are factory installed and the rock rails are port installed. More likley then not the rock rails will show as a conflict with factory equipment and will not be available. Might be wrong though.

there will be PLENTY of people that think this truck is CUUUUUTE and will buy it and need the running boards to get into the truck on the way to theater or something. You've got to anticipate a lot of not-so-offroad stuff coming in....

This is the Toyota contradiction:

They build a truck they claim they aim at a real 4x4 crowd. Build what they claim is their best 4x4.

Then they build it in a way that comes with something you most likely don't want and don't need for the target demographic.

And based on your comment, which I suspect is dead on: do it in a way that's in direct conflict in what 90% of the target demographic wants, and Needs.

Seems to me, they should have made the rock rails either standard, and/or possibly not even offered the running boards at all.

I'm sorry to hear your news granger. The good news is, the subwoofer is probably totally unnecessary; if that was the only mod to your order, I'd happily take it. Running boards.....not my preference.

I totally agree and honestly am not too worried about it. Buying the UP2 package was a way to get a little more sound with a little bit of effort. $60 felt like a steal, $360 (running boards + UP2) and extra work (installing the rock rails myself) is NOT worth it.

I guess the other thing you might want to check is whether the running boardds are bolt on, or whether they had to drill the frame assembly and you'll be left with holes, or something........

Yeah, I totally get that. It points out the Toyota contadiction. Just whom are they building the car for: the 4x4 demographic they state, or the people with money to throw at a bling, bling cutey......

I tend to think both. But it would be smarter to sell 'em "raw" to appease both groups and set the dealers up to sell and make profit on the running boards, rather than pre-load the cars with something their stated target market DOES NOT WANT.
