Sun roof???

I have seriously been thinking of adding a sunroof. I haven't owned a vehicle with one though. Most of the local companies have 3 yr warranties. I have heard horror stories about leakage down the road. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Sun roof???

Our Webasto dealer claimed 5 yrs. on the 500 series and life-time on the 700 series. Went with a 31 1/2 x 19 1/2 700 series and am very happy with how the mechansim 'sounds' solid. The opening does not seem very large when compared with the overall width of the headliner; yet I kind of like the option of ducking in and out of the sun dependant on which driving lean you take.
My first sunroof also and already couldn't imagine the vehicle without it when considering such a flat windshield and how far back you sit from any light in the cab.

Re: Sun roof???

I've had two vehicles with sunroofs. I usually keep my vehicles for a long time. Eventually both leaked.

First one: Rubber gasket rotted.
Second one: One of the drainage hoses got detached.

Re: Sun roof???

I have never seen any leakage out of any of my parents cars with sun/moon roofs. Including a 1980 bmw M535 with an aftermarket moon roof done in the early 90's.

Re: Sun roof???

I had a Sun Roof installed 2 weeks ago.

Knock on wood no leaks yet ... but also no rain ... I did go through a car wash last week and all was fine.

Re: Sun roof???

Webasto seems to be the brand that most folks here are installing. I have just ordered the 524 "Panorama" model and will have that installed. That one extends to the back seats. The 700 series is more conventional front-seat model. I have gotten very good reports on the quality of these products and the warranty they come with (5 years on the 700 and 3 on the 524 I think). Regarding structural issues - I am convinced there are none but you should do your own research.

Question Re: Sun roof???

I had read something about a new technology of speakers in the headliner that is used with some models/packages. Does this pose any concern for a sun roof?

The comments I have heard is no decernible difference in sound quality. It is probably so minute that only a real audiophile would notice. IMO

Sounds yummy. Any pics? And do you have the roof rack? I assume that wouldn't be an issue?
