Toyota FJ "For the Youth" ?

Ok, after a visit to the dealership. Basically I will be looking at nearly 40-41 K with taxes and all the other crap they add on in Canada(15% Sales tax, Air Tax, Freight, Admin Fee, Licensing) etc. How is this vehicle supposed to be aimed at the youth. I'm still heavily considering it, however, for 40K I can get a fully loaded Honda Ridgeline(dual climate zone, power leather seats, rump warmers, a nice refined interior and not a shabby vehicle, in the nice green metallic colour I want) mind you I won't be submerging that vehicle, but thats alot of truck for the same money, and its a Honda and reliable. Regardless, most people who buy a 40k Car re not 20-25 years old, there fore these colours are not meant for them! It's a conspiracy I tell you!

Re: Toyota FJ "For the Youth" ?

i dont know where you are gettin the numbers for the ridgeline (smokin' deal at a stealership?) but i just built one on www.honda.ca and came out with $47,737 pretty well equiped (ex-l trim, towing pkg & hitch, security, 17" alloys, backup sonar, roof rack, running boards) there are a number of other options i left off because thy weren't comparable to the FJC, so that price could easily get a lot higher.

do you have confirmed pricing for what the FJC will cost CA$? i hope you got good figures. 'course the numbers we are all tossing around for the US model are without all taxes fees and such, so you might be pretty close at $40k-ish canadian.

On a side note; hondas are reliable cars, cant argue with that, but the people who own them are only slightly below those who own volkswagens on my scale of "people i want to kill on first sight." otherwise known as the yuppie scum meter. im sure you all have seen the VW toureg commercial with the guy who spots his ex? people like that.... and dont get me started on "import tuners," the mere notion of a fwd sports car is non-sensical.

Re: Toyota FJ "For the Youth" ?

Ridgeline is a car-based plat-form with front wheel drive (rear wheel drive occur after slippage).

This system is good for people riding in the city and wants to save gas. Honda, Element, CR-V, Pilot, Ridgeline are not truck and are not capable of real Off-road. Honda play for city SUV people customer and its ok.

The FJ come at 30k can. (Ridgline start at 35k can) With V6 VVT-I MT6, Torsen center differential and differential locking system, no other SUV offer this kind of superior power train at this cost. See chart below of cars equipped with centrer Torsen and you will see much more expensive car than FJ:

http://www.torsen.com/oem.htm

Again, Honda is for a niche, Toyota truck for another and I’m in

Re: Toyota FJ "For the Youth" ?

I just took the torsen diff. out of my RX-7 and swapped it for an older style clutch type....the clutch type are stronger and hold up better under high rev launches....not that that matters on an FJ....I've only come across one post where someone is looking to drop the clutch at 5k in the FJ...

Comparing apples to oranges, totally different trucks for different people.
What's true is that you can't call $35,000-40,000 car affordable, especially for its intended market (20-25 years old). And that another reason why I don't see FJ is being a hot seller at least in Canada, as we discussed recently in another thread.
