Just curious whats better landcruiser or fj cruiser?

Is the fj cruiser the smaller version of the landcruiser and less power? Same capabilities though ie off roading, regular driving, etc...

These two are not exactly apples and oranges, BUT, still completely different types of vehicles.

The Land Cruiser as it sells currently here in the U.S. is a mid range luxury SUV with all the bells and whistles that category entails. You get leather everything, cushy everything, electronic everything, power everything, and a few things thrown in just to remind you that this is not your daddy's Land Cruiser from yesteryear. Is it off-roadable? You betcha. So is a Volkswagen Touareg for that matter. But why would you? (besides it being quite fun)

The FJ Cruiser is, imo, a better platform for off-roading simply because it is designed to take a bit more abuse and rough handling, especially on the interior.

Both will get you there, the question is the manner of your arrival. One you'll jump out of and brush the dust and grit off your shoulders laughing at how badly you need a deep cleaning. The other, you'll jump out of, brush the dust out of the crevices of the seat and comment blandly how badly your rig needs a deep cleaning.

Hmm, are you refering to the 200 series Land Cruiser or to all Land Cruisers? most current LCs aren't sold in the US: 70 series, 90 series and 120 series. (I know that the 120 was suposed to replace the 90 series but the 90 is still available in some countries)

But if it's FJC vs 200 series you're talking about, it's not a fair comparison at all, the 200 costs twice as much as the FJC. But if you put the keys and title of both on a table and make me chose one, I'd take the 200 (but I'd prefer the bare bones version they sell on some countries that has vinyl carpets, manual tranny and doeas away with msot of the electronic gizmos).

I haven't seen any real expedition builds of the current generation Land Cruiser (series 200). But there are some pretty solid builds of the 100-series (1998 to 2007, I believe), which are independent front suspension like the FJ. Of course, there are lots of folks that wheel 80-series trucks, (1991 to 1997), since they are solid axle front.

The best comparison (IMO) would be a 2003-2005 Land Cruiser 100-series versus a new FJ. This makes the cost of the vehicles roughly the same.

I would argue that the FJ can outwheel the 100-series when both are bone stock, but once modified, both are quite capable. See this 100-series build as a thorough example.

The strength of the Land Cruiser is its size - more cargo capacity, superb rear seating, comfy ride, good visibility, lots of luxury features, etc. This large size is also its weakness - inferior break over and departure angles, difficulty on narrow trails, maybe too nice of an interior to wheel, etc.

Both are great choices. For me personally, if I was consistently carrying back seat passengers, I would recommend the Land Cruiser.

My hesitancy about the Land Cruiser is that I use my truck as a daily driver, and although the LC is big, comfy, and quiet, it isn't in the same league of "fun to drive" as a FJ. I do believe the LC to be the more practical choice - but practical ain't always the only criteria. These are our "fun" vehicles, so make sure you take that into account when choosing.

I believe in the movie "kingdom" with jaime foxx they had some land cruisers that had a moon roof in the rear seating area what year is that one where they had them? it was pretty big moonroof lookign thing, but pretty cool and aggressive looking.

In general I would agree that the Land Cruiser is more of a Luxury SUV and the FJ is more rugged and an easier platform to turn into a great trail rig. All depends on your budget and taste I guess... I wouldn't say that the FJC is just a smaller cheaper LC though.

The FJ Cruiser isn't a Land Cruiser, the Hi-Lux isn't one either. Both are capable 4x4s and very nice vehicles, but they are not Land Cruisers.

While I think they had a bunch of LC's in the movie, I think the main ones were the 60 series. That LC was sold in the US until 1990. Man-a-Fre IIRC actually made the bumpers for the Land Cruisers in that movie.
