Airbag failure to deploy

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and loved my 2007 FJ, but had a serious crash the other day...while I was going 5 mph, got slammed into the back by a car going about 50mph, which then spun me 180 degrees into the oncoming path of a semi going about 20-30mph.

See the photos... the car is obviously totalled, and while I'd like to get another, I'm very concerned about the fact that no airbags went off at all.

Any thoughts out there?

Thanks!

Re: Airbag failure to deploy

Ouch, glad your OK. Perhaps it was a perfect storm type single occurance. Maybe the sensors saw your lack of speed combined with the engine being disabled by the rear end collision. Who knows right? Any way you look at it the bags did not deploy and you came through OK so maybe it was good they didn't deploy. I dunno, just brain storming I guess.

Re: Airbag failure to deploy

Hi - thanks for the kind thoughts.

I was figuring if I contact Toyota, they'll forward it to their lawyers and they'll go silent on me.

The part I'm struggling with, is if I go to buy a 2009/2010, is there a way I can find out if the airbags will work, or do you know if there's been a problem like this with FJ Cruisers?

Thanks!

Re: Airbag failure to deploy

I have heard of an increasing amount of owners who have experienced the same thing you have, no air bags...

Re: Airbag failure to deploy

Hope your OK! Looks like your FJ is totaled for sure, seems to me with that impact your air bags would have deployed.... Seek legal coucil quick!

Re: Airbag failure to deploy

The front airbags don't do anything if you are hit from behind, there are forward sensors for frontal impact. Getting hit from behind pushes you into the seat, not the steering wheel. Same thing for side impact.

But, when you hit the semi, it should have gone off.

Sorry to hear about the collision.
