I can confirm this information. My dealer here in Minneapolis/St. Paul just called me today to tell me, and ask me what I wanted. EVERYTHING, of course. I am #2 on their list.
and what happens if you place an order? do you still have to buy the thing without even driving the thing? dont get me wrong, im 99.9% buying one of these things. but i still want to make sure my head doesnt hit the ceiling when i get in and make sure the back seat has enough space - OH YEA
What this means is that I can build the FJ how you want it, (other than the PPO's) and it will sit in an order bank untill Toyota picks up the order. The first oder will be picked up on January 25th. The vehicle will hit the ground sometime in March 2006.
Maybe some additional information on packages and options. I found the article which had the photo of the silver FJ. The article had the following information about packages and options which I hadn't seen before:
"All FJs have antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, antiskid/traction system, 17-inch wheels, and all-terrain tires. Full-length head-protecting curtain side airbags with front torso side airbags are available. Also standard are air conditioning, power windows and locks, tilt steering wheel, 60/40 split folding rear seat, 6-speaker AM/FM/CD audio, and chassis skid plates. An optional Convenience Package adds keyless entry, cruise control, rear obstacle detection, and other features. That group is required with the Upgrade One option, which also includes alloy wheels, steering-wheel audio/cruise controls, special interior trim, 8-speaker audio with CD changer, plus compass, outside temperature display, and an inclinometer gauge showing vehicle tilt angles. An Upgrade Two Package adds a rear subwoofer speaker. Other options include a roof rack, side steps, brush guards, sport-sound exhaust system, off-road driving lights, trailer hitch, and a Garmin-brand plug-in/portable navigation system."
My dealer felt that almost all, if not all, FJ's will come with a mandatory Convenience package-while I was not crazy about daytime running lights and mirror lights, I'll definietly want the keyless entry and cruise control which was not explained as part of the Convenience package on any prior posts on this board. Does anyone know what tha "special interior trim" is on the Upgrade One option? It seems that the more we know, the more questions we have.

right, but say you put in the order before given a chance to test drive the vehicle (any version). are you still required to purchase? or is this part of the agreement to be negotiated up front per dealership? (have never pre-ordered a car before)

I have not heard of any special interior trim. What I have is what was sent to my from Toyota. If it wasn't officially from Toyota I would not hold it to the fire.
