Re: aFe Cold Air Intake Group Buy!

That port is smaller than the fender inlet. At idle I can't really feel any suction in the port when I put my hand over it. So it's pulling most air from the fender and the port just provides extra when you open it up and the vacuum increases. I'd say maybe 70/30 cold air to warm air?

I couldn't feel any suction at idle either.

The sound/vibrations, I'm curious if it is due to the lack of sound damping vs the stock intake or having increased back pressure due to the stock exhaust.

The sound mostly comes for the shape and design of the tube itself. while the stock intake "snakes" around, the aFe is a straight shot that funnels the air from a large Dia. to small. This is what makes the sound and vibration. The harder plastic also amplifies the sound as well.

That is why my plan was to just block it. I can't see any good places either to run it to. I'm going to make a big rubber or foam plug for it. I also plan on insulating the airbox to reduce heat transfer from the engine compartment as well.
I'm actually thinking of insulating the box and tube,, and maybe removing the homemade plug during the really cold months,,any suggestions where i can get anything besides the reynolds wrap,, trying to stay away from the NASA look

Re: aFe Cold Air Intake Group Buy!

Ok so I had a thought today and I'd really like your guy’s opinion on it. I was trying to think of a solution to the Aux port issue and was weighing to pros and cons to the air volume to intake temp situation.

Just for some reference my intake temps hit 121 today in traffic moving at a steady 25mph in 71 degree weather.

In traffic/ around town / trail driving colder air would be much more important than high volume/flow because of lower RPMs but at highway speeds and heavy acceleration the better flow of the Aux port improves performance.

Anyways my suggestion is to install a spring resisted flap in the Aux port that opened into the filter box. This would keep warm air out under normal/low RPM driving conditions where high flow is not needed, and would open from the suction caused by heavy acceleration, where unrestricted air flow is critical. This seems to me like a very cheap and easy solution. The hardest part would be the gauge the resistance of the spring.

Any input or suggestions would be appreciated or just tell me if and why this won't work. I'm going to pull my filter box apart tomorrow after work and do some research.

Re: aFe Cold Air Intake Group Buy!

Any of you guys want pre-filters yet? I ordered mine already. If you tell me I can get them with a group buy for $30 and then ship via USPS (mail) as they are light and should cost only a couple bucks.

To ship direct aFe wants $15, but that is because they use UPS solely.
