OK guys I wasn't part of the group buy but I did pick up my truck today after having JBA Headers and Exhaust installed for 1350.00. Truck sounds absolutely awesome. Seems a bit quicker. After installing the lift and tires my milage really went to Sheet so I was hoping to get some of that back. Well I am pleased to report that after only being able to baby 17MPG max before this install. Tonight figured my milage and squeezed 19 MPG out of it. YEE-HAW I be very happy!!!!
Cool! Still waiting on mine. They'll probably come in a couple of weeks when I'm in SoCal having a sunroof installed, but I made alternate delivery arrangements. Can't wait to get and install them!

I got some more questions... thanks PhilC64 for helping me out earlier!
If the pre-cats and cats are mild steel, can I get replacements in stainless?
Is there any difference between the cats and precats in make up?
The reason I ask is I was rethinking the whole exhaust for the long run, thought I'd try to get the whole thing in stainless eventually. Could I weld up stainless cats, tubing and flange to the first flange, then use a URD y-pipe back to the muffler, splice in another stainless cat before the muffler to ease my mind on pollution, then run the All-pro high clearance tail pipe?
I'm just thinking outloud for my ideal exhaust setup... any thoughts?
I was thinking the same thing, maybe making some custom y-pipe with some stainless cats as well. If you come across any at a good price let me know.
Most i've seen are 400-600 range.

No problem FJoel! Glad to help!
I know there are stainless cats available but they are pricey! The Toyota Cats and pre-cats are pretty much the same. Every FJ out there is set up to be smog legal in CA so we all have 2 cats. The other wrench in reducing to one cat is that Toyota has a total of 6 O2 sensors on the exhaust! Yup 6 sensors! They are broken up into 2 groups of 3. (One set of 3 for each exhaust bank.) The first is the AFR (air/fuel ratio) sensor which is in the exhaust manifold. The second sensor is right after the pre-cat and the third is after the last (second) cat. ALL three sensors have to be in place or you will get dash light codes. I know a couple of folks on the board went cat-less or eliminated the pre-cat. I do not know how they are fooling the Bozo-puter and not getting error codes without the cats. I know Air2Air has an "Off-highway use only" rig and runs straight to a muffler. You might want to check with him as to how he did it.
The lead length on the O2sensors is quite short so one might have to lengthen the wires if you're going to relocate the cats. I'd say go get some 14ga. wire and splice in a longer lead length to the connector and have at it.
For criminey sakes don't muss up any of your O2 sensors! Despite what auto parts stores tell you, there is no "Universal" sensor for our rig as of yet! It ran me $245 for one AFR sensor and the others run about $135 each! Do some math before you wrench $490 for AFR sensors total and $540 for the others. Thats a total of over $1000 just for O2 sensors if you screw them up!

When in doubt, run it over. Back up, then run it over again.
so here is the scope you can run with out cats using a resistor mod that changes that ohm reading that is picked up by the 2nd o2 sensor and changing it to compensate for the lack of the cat making the o2 sensors actual reading a modified reading with the inline resistors the problem with doing this is on a engine chip mod or if you are going to run a supercharger is that you will have to put in a different resistor to compensate for the newer mod once again finding how much you would have to change the actual reading to the optimal performance of the computer to not throw the engine light.

Ok where can I find this mod along with resistor values? Please don't tell me that this is one that has gone around eBay a few times

i am waiting for my headers and then i will gut the pre cats. i already cut out the rears so when that happens i will be able to get the start working on exact resistor that is needed and post the proper color code for the resistor to give the best air fuel ratio... keep you guys posted when i get the info
