Mostly on road - go with the standard. It's a happy medium. Chuck on a pre-filter if you are worried about the fine dust when going out in the dirt. The ProGuard will not flow as well, and hinder on road performance while it shields the crap from your engine. In order to shield more crap, it flows less CFM.
If you can afford it, get a ProGuard to swap in for offroad for $50 with a free cleaning kit.
13x13x17" for a ProDry @ 10lbs. This is what I have on hand.
Add a pound for oiled filters just to be safe.
Sorry if my answer is not in enough detail, but if you have the time, all three filter media types are covered in depth at aFe's website.
No, you were very helpful! Thanks again for organizing this. I just have to go count my pennies now...

I have the throttle body and a snorkel. It works and sounds cool!
It actually goes between the throttle body itself and the plenum, no where near the filter. My 15 year old brother installed it in 15 minutes while I did other mods.
He is good with wrenches and mechanically smart, but considering the instructions never even got unfolded and I chucked them with the box, I'm going to rate it 2 out of 10 for difficulty. Note the 2 is only because he had a wrench in his hand.
my unerstanding of the cyclone pre cleaner acts in much the same way! will ther be any advantages to having both? will one assist the other or counteract the other? just wondering as well will this affect warranty?please bare with me as this may be my first real mod. any help would be appreciated. keep up the good work fjoel!

I have an 07 so I know very little of the cyclone prefilters, but I understand they make it more difficult to install a snorkel.
The cyclone pre-filter may discharge some of the heavier particles, but from what I have seen I think the aFe pre-filter will still be better at catching the fine stuff.
Neither the intake nor TBS should affect your warranty, but this can change dealer to dealer, service tech to service tech. They are easily enough removed if you HAD to, suspecting a denial on a claim...
Re: aFe Cold Air Intakes and Throttle Body Spacers Group Buy: Round 6!
Just my two cents worth. I tried the pro dry flat panel filter and I don't think it does a very good job of filtering the fine dust we get on dirt roads out here in Arizona at all. Very minimal air used to blow of the filter showed particles traveling right through it! I decided to try it because I don't like having to deal with an oiled air filter and have had more than on vehicle with MAF problems from filters that were oiled from the factory. However, I've moved back to my TRD oiled filter for now because I don't feel the pro dry does a good enough job at filtering.
In addition the cyclone pre filter REALLY helps out here. We consistently have to empty it out because it's nearly full of fine dirt.
Joel, what's the AFE pre filter? Is that something built into their intake?
EDIT: FYI Homedad did a snorkel on the cyclonic prefilter this weekend. It wasn't a bit deal at all.

Yeah, the ProDry is meant more for on the road use, not the fine offroad dust your rig sees.
The pre-filter is a very fine nylon "sock" that goes over the conical aFe filters. It can be machine washed between runs, and greatly increases filtration of the fine stuff.
Really, for the stuff you see in AZ you want to get a ProGuard, but again, more protection means less flow, so a "road" filter to swap in and out would be a good idea.

Interesting. So is that a seperate part then or does it come with the kit? Thanks!
A cross between quasimoto and the elephant man..... But only the good parts!!!!!
