CCW Instructors

Not all inclusive but good start if looking for CCW instructors in your state...

Re: CCW Instructors

To start, I'd make sure what the training/education requirements are, if any, for obtaining a permit in your particular state. Some folks may not actually need to take a class as they already meet the requirement through previous experience/training.
If there is such a requirement, I'd suggest people interested in satisfying the training/ed requirement for obtaining a CCW consult NRA.ORG. In my opinion, NRA Education and Training to find a course near you is a better place to start.
If you don't want to use the net, and want to look locally, I'd go to a gun shop or gun club you trust.
The NRA has class content and standards that must be met by students in NRA approved classes taught by NRA Certified instructors in that discipline. Some people have made a business out of CCW 'training' and some 'instructors' have been reported to the NRA for 'fudging' on the requirements for class completion. Others aren't even certified to any standard. Students have been issued class completion certificates, but haven't had the proper classroom education and/or live fire training.

Prices for classes vary greatly as this is left up to the instructor(s) as to how much they charge. Paying more does not necessarily get you more. Some do it as a for profit business, others charge just to cover expenses, then there are those that donate their skills, time and funds as a matter of principle/beliefs.

Re: CCW Instructors

I agree...this was just an opportunity for people to look if they already do not know of a place. My local range, ATP Guns, was not listed and is a one stop shop for the class, fingerprints, photographs, and range time.

Re: CCW Instructors

Brock, thanks for posting the info.

We teach in Cheyenne, but get students coming from other parts of the state and Colorado as well. If anyone in S. WY or N. CO has questions, they can PM me. By the way, we are all volunteers(LEOs, NRA Instructors, attorney/prosecutor, etc.), male and female, pay all of our own expenses and a local gun club coordinates and donates the facilities. Currently, we only charge $40(which covers some of the cost of materials) for approx. 16 hours of instruction. I've been involved for over 10 years. Fun.

Re: CCW Instructors

I wish that were the case here...the rate for classes is about $75-90 and then another $50 for pictures and to send off the documents for you. It is convenient but you pay not having to do it yourself.

Thanks for doing what you do out there.... We are lucky in SC. We are getting more and more reciprocity all the time and there is currently a BILL that would change the law so 1- we can carry in Applebees or Red Lobster while dining and not be arrested and lose our permit just because they also serve alcohol. 2- That you can leave your weapon locked in your vehicle if CCW holder when on campus or school property. We could already drop off kids or spouses in the public drive as long as we were not stopping and leaving vehicle...so now this would allow teachers, parents, college students, etc to have a secure storage device in vehicle to secure weapon on campuses.

We also have access to the rights afforded to holders in Utah if we take the local version of the Utah requirements...and also a mail in for NH for out of state holders.

Thanks again and God speed to all of you.
