Hey guys, I am a Designated Marksmen in the Marine Corps, and I want to recreate my rifle, but tweak it a little. It's going to be 5.56, because I can get all the 5.56 I want and I'm cheap so 6.5, 223, 308, etc is a no go. The purpose for this rifle is to be able to take it hunting and achieve .5-.75 MOA affordably, with 77 grain.
Lower:
I'm gonna go with a stripped RRA, because they are cheap, well made, and I've only heard good things about them.
Trigger:
I have no idea! I need input on what trigger group to get, again I don't want to drop $400 on a tiny piece of metal!!!
Stock:
Magpul, duh!
Upper:
Daniel Defense stripped A4 upper
Bolt Carrier Group: I need input! Price/ Quality is key, but for the bolt I'll go a little pricey
I was looking at daniel but $160!!!! Jeez...
Barrel:
White Oaks Armament SPR Rifle Length, one hell of a barrel for a nice price ($265 w/o mil discount)
Rails: Please Please Please help me on rails, I would go with Daniel or Knights, but cough ouch they definately love to kick you in the balls with cost.
Hell if they are the only good rail brands then I'll just go with Daniel Defense....
Optics: I need input!
An adjustable leupold 1,000m is all I'll ever dream of with this build.
I guess that about covers it!
Please guys the more input the better! I really don't want to spend a lot on this build. I know that with ARs you get what you pay for, but I want to bend the rule as much as possible and get away with it.
I second the Geissele (pronounced Guys-lee) triggers. They have several types..... Adco Firearms LLC is probably your best source. They are spendy....from the SSA to the Hi-speed, etc. Some are almost $280.
BCG.....try Bravo Company USA.
Optics: Leupy Mk4 is standard and a decent choice. What are you looking to spend? Might try IOR or NightForce if you don't mind spending a little more to get a lot more scope. Nightforce's matching turrets/knobs (both in milliradians) and First Focal Plane are slated (at least when I was looking) to be spendy....almost into Schmidt and Bender/US Optics territory....and if that's the case, get the S&B or USO.....but those were right at $2K-2500.
The IOR is a good deal feature wise for the price....about $1500 for the FFP......of course, if you want illumination.....you'll have to pick yet another set of optics.
HTH,
Sean

Troy makes a good product, but they are a **** company to deal with.
Larue or Daniel Defense get my vote..
Snap, thanks for the heads up.
The Troy was my first choice, but now the Daniel Defense will get pushed a little higher on the list as second for my free floating quad rail i am going to purchase. Time to do some research.

personally I won't buy another thing from Troy. I bought a folding sight from Troy and it wouldn't move without a crow bar and when i called them they basically told me that after the sale it was my problem.

I went ahead and ordered this, it comes in a week... And yah I know it says out of stock, because I emailed the manager and he just so happened to have one get in that morning... Win!
I noticed that you just ordered your upper assy today. I was going to suggest getting one of these Noveske N4 basic carbines for $1,495 (which is a great price and they offer military discount) and swap the 14.5" barrel for a 16" or 18" barrel. Or you can have the vortex pinned and welded so it's not an SBR. It's been a while since Noveske has any rifles in stock. Noveske Rifleworks, LLC. Precision Battle Weapons.
There's some great info on m4carbine.net on SPR builds and optics. I have used a few Leupolds and recommend them. The Mark 4 2.5-8x36 MR/T M2 is a nice variable scope for an SPR.
