Re: better paint!!!

The paint would be my biggest disappointment in the FJ. This is my first Toyota, i have wondered if all there cars have this kind of paint or are some better quality?

Re: better paint!!!

After going off road a few times, you don't really worry about the paint, especially when you get those custom pin stripes!

Re: better paint!!!

It seems like all the Toyota cars/trucks paint sucks. My dads camry and my scion both have terrible paint problems yet my moms honda crv is free of any damage. At least I will have a reason to repaint the FJ in the future

Re: better paint!!!

The paint SUCKS!!! Plain and simple, I used polishing compound to try to at least minimize some of my scratches and it took off the clear coat. CRAP. I want Imron (sp) back.

Re: better paint!!!

So, just out of curiosity, what vehicle has GOOD paint? Every car forum I have been on as of late, everyone seems convinced their vehicle is the worst painted vehicle to roll off the assembly line in decades. Maybe it's EPA regs, or maybe they just don't build em how they used to, but my last three new vehicles have all chipped ALOT (off or on road)

Mercedes may break down alot but they have great paint. Always shines and hard to scratch

Re: better paint!!!

Ironically the paint they use must be a little pricey. I recently had body work done on my FJ, and they had to inflate the initial estimate once they started mixing the paint. Due to the cost of tints or pigments used.

I didn't have to pay, the guy who hit me's insurance did

body work was so so. you could tell body work had been done, but it was only rear bumper so I didn't bother makeing a fuss. didn't want to have to drive the tiny yaris rental on beltway again, pretty scary. not sure if it was due to paint or person doing body work.
