Re: V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't get a V8 if it was an option at point of sale.

Re: V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's a V8?

Now a turbo diesel... THAT would be cool.

Re: V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The FJ Cruiser SUT(prototype) was with a V8, the same V8 as the 4Runner and the GX470

Toyota is ready, but i think they will not move on this one...the gas price! I think the sale of the Fj will be more easy with a diesel.

A vendor said to a frend of mine, toyota canada will have a SUV (new model) diesel. I dont beleive it instead that i see one!

Re: V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The diesel would be AWESOME, but Toyota doesn't have a diesel ready, while they have several V8's available.

Just in case you hadn't googled' it yourself yet... Here are some results from the following google search "Fj Cruiser supra"

Re: V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there will be no v8.

there will be no diesel.

there will be no convertible.

the fj is dead.

there probably won't be a 2010.

you have a collectors' item.

not sure how that makes me feel.

Re: V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you, the same sources that say the Supra is canceled are the same ones that have been saying "Toyota to release new supra in Oct!" for the last FIVE YEARS. It's amazing that a blog puts out a guess as to what someone will do, 6 other blogs copy the same information, and it's suddenly "news"

Did some digging to see if I could find any REAL news about it, and EVERY article that says it's canceled points back to Automotive News's speculation. Are there news stories about the factory being retooled to build anything else? Nope (tho production is down until december Toyota Motor to cut domestic SUV output as global sales sag - report - Forbes.com )

Time will tell, but by now, a new model is probably already mostly designed, or they killed it awhile ago and haven't told us. But, here's a few quotes from Toyots about the FJ and SUVs in general:

"FJ Cruiser is “a Corvette for Toyota,” one executive says. It “demonstrates the company still has a heart and soul.”"
-------------
A consultant for Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday that the automaker won't retool its plans to build Highlander sport utility vehicles at a plant under construction in north Mississippi, despite the trend of people seeking more fuel-efficient cars.

"The auto industry is a cyclical industry," Cuneo said. "Toyota believes in the long run this is going to be a good place to manufacture and build vehicles."

---------------
So, would you cancel a great selling halo vehicle just because there is a slump that's hitting EVERY model?

I agree with your sentiments. The optimist in me is somewhat happy. Why? Because, I don't want to see newer/better versions of the FJ so I don't have to say, "DOH! i should have waited for that model" .... every year.

Toyota as a diesel in the Prado, same plateform as us. The other motorization of the Prado is the V6 4.0l. The two transmission disponible is a 5 speed auto and a 6 speed manuel.. the same like us.

See Toyota Prado Australia: Specifications, Brochure, Test Drive: All Terrain 4WD and in France the call it just Land Cruiser
