That's funny, I would have gotten the 4-banger if they made it...
ewww no thanks. Each to his own though. Honda Element has a 4-banger and is AWD... My sister has one and it's woefully underpowered. Pass.

I do wish Toyota offered AWD FJ as opposed to 4x4 or 4x2 though...

You can make a 4 banger EXTREMELY powerful. For example the new Mitsubishi lancer evo is a 4 banger but puts out 400 bhp.

That's not what I was getting at...

I drive crazy slow on the road, and never really use much more than a crack of the throttle crawling... if a 150hp engine could get me some better mileage and lighten up the truck, I'd take it.

That's pretty amazing. I had a 1.8T Audi A4 that would knock the crap out of a mustang gt... but it did it with about 200 horses.

I'd still have to contend that there's a huge difference between 400bhp 4cyl moving 2200(guessing) pounds and one to move 4200ish.

BUT, I don't know all that much about it. I'd just think torque may be an issue.

Each to his own... I drive (too) fast on the highway, and DFW freeways, like most, often require more than 150hp to avoid a wreck when you're moving 4200 pounds

Re: V8 Version Please!

Sometimes a V8 that is not working very hard can give better mileage than a V6 that is working hard. I'm not certain what the aerodynamic and weight differences are but I would bet that the 5.3 in my Silverado, which gets around 20 in the pickup, would give mileage no worse than the V6 if you dropped it in the FJ. As far as power, there is certainly no reason other than racing (or stupidity) to have 400 hp in the FJ but some additional power/torque would be nice especially if it were in a usable RPM range.

Re: V8 Version Please!

LOL... didn't even revisit this thread.
You do know we have coasties becoming seals now don't you?
if you didn't know... i will ask you to speak to your nearest Senior/Master Chief. I'm sure they have heard about it.
as far as me saying 250 is plenty 200 is not... this was strictly a comparison from our FJs to that of the Wranglers.
further more, H3 A's have v8's... and i'd not want to promote that really-

Re: V8 Version Please!

I think it's funny that threads like this are back now that gas is under $2 a gallon.

Folks, I hate to say this....but it ain't gonna stay this low for long.

2 cents,
Sean

Re: V8 Version Please!

I bought my FJ when gas was close to $4 a Gallon. And my last truck with a V-8 had near the same gas millage.I don't think gas price has ever played a roll in my purchasing.

Re: V8 Version Please!

Surely you realize that the vast majority of people are not in the position to ignore rising gas prices??
