Re: Blind Spots

A good steel rear bumper will ease your mind. I too have the backup sonar, and I have never used it in my life... and I got my FJ new in 07'. Still never backed into anything. Not even close.

Dido... Plus, I installed a backup camera (cheap <$100 dollar setup from Walmart 2yrs ago).

The only time I have a hard time backing up is at night. Tinted windows and crappy backup lights = no visibility at mirrors and backup camera. I need to get my rear lightbar installed. But, so far, so good (or lucky?).

I don't know how the weather is there, but at night, I just roll down the windows to see.

I still need to install a rear light though

Yeah... I do that a lot too. Weather sucks here... so I get a lot of snow and water in my FJ backing up. LOL

While driving, I use the mirrors to adjust for the blind spots on the FJ.

However, backing out of a parking space drives me nuts. The sheet metal behind the rear half doors visually blocks out moving vehicles. Drives me crazy inching out and not being able to see if a vehicle is coming down the lane. Experienced a few near misses-----scares the hell out of me. Suggestions to Toyota, put a window there instead of sheet metal! If I bang someone, I'll know that it was my fault for not looking.
YUP! I did that just the other day, I was backing out really slowly and another car came flying down the isle and we colided. It tore my bumper up pretty good but it destroyed his sedan. I was almost proud

Re: Blind Spots

I've been using the round convex mirrors for quite some time and they prove effective - but I found they are rather small and if there is any rain or snow/ice on them, forget it. I found these the other day in wallyworld and thought i'd give them a try. For $3 each, i'll risk it .

Made by CIPA Mirrors - called the Hot Spot 49702

Re: Blind Spots

Alright... installed these mirrors. A bit LARGE at first but i'm used to them now and you can see vehicles that are right beside you that you can't see in the normal mirror. Even my wife - riding shotgun - mentioned how much more visibility they have. I'm sold on them.
