Blind Spots

While driving, I use the mirrors to adjust for the blind spots on the FJ.

However, backing out of a parking space drives me nuts. The sheet metal behind the rear half doors visually blocks out moving vehicles. Drives me crazy inching out and not being able to see if a vehicle is coming down the lane. Experienced a few near misses-----scares the hell out of me. Suggestions to Toyota, put a window there instead of sheet metal! If I bang someone, I'll know that it was my fault for not looking.

Re: Blind Spots

I never thought it was all that bad. Had a 98 Crysler Concorde that was much worse and had smaller mirrors.

Except for the part about when someone parks close behind you, so the cargo door doesn't have room to be opened.

Re: Blind Spots

My '08 has the backup sonar, works great. The '09 has a backup camera with display on the rearview, even better.

Re: Blind Spots

For my blind spot problems I installed a back up camera, two round adjustiable convex mirrors, and my FJ came with the parking assist. With all three it has helped my wife and I out a great deal.

Re: Blind Spots

Pineapple Express how do you like the White Knight Reverse Hitch Light? Any pictures and do you have to take it off to use the hitch?

I also have the park assist, as well as two round convex mirrors. In addition, I added a larger rearview mirror, which really helps, as well.

Re: Blind Spots

Aloha, thanks fo' da posts guys.

Eh, I try to back up to spots but it's usually me who ends up getting to close to a car on da' side of me-------- no mo talent yet fo' reverse. I've also used the back up sensors a few times now-----slowly trusting it. Will have to look into a camera. Not high on my mod list right now-----howeva' thanks for da' advice.

NSB Cruiser, right now I don't have the White Knight mounted on the FJ. I had it mounted on my 89 Wrangler. Took it off when I sold it. Worked great on the Jeep---- should be good to go on the FJ. Looked at the OEM hitch but I don't think the White Knight will fit. Will have to go aftermarket. Taking it off can be done. The housing can be popped off to clean out the dust and grime. Overall I am very happy with the light. It has a switch on the housing so you can turn it on manually, throws a nice wide arc, and tucks up nicely. My friends have recently upgraded their lights by replacing the bulbs. They tell me that its a BIG improvement. For a hundred bucks, I think that I'll wait awhile. I can take a few pictures of the light on their Jeeps if you want.

Oh yeah, forgot to add that the rear hitch still can be used with the light mounted.

Lattas,

Mark

The blind spots in my Fiero were just as bad as they are in my FJ.
