Sunroof!!!

I sure wish the FJ had a factory sunroof. At least the side windows are big....

Re: Sunroof!!!

I had an ASC Inalfa model 840 sunroof installed on June 12th. The installer (Stylecraft of Wichita - excellent work wth great references) recommended the model 840. The size is 32.5 inches by 19 inches, and installs in the FJ roof with minimal obstructions/demo of roof cross members. It also, fits nicely within the side air curtains. It requires a special circumferential ring to accommodate the ribbed roof of the FJ and to ensure weather tightness. The installed price with air deflector, an option, and tax was $1483. The sunroof fully opens in a retractable space between the roof and headliner or tilts open for venting. This is an integral sunshade too.

I drove my FJ with the sunroof open during the Summit in July and it definitely increased the viewing pleasure. Several folks commented positively about the extra openness of having a sunroof. Although Toyota doesn't offer a sunroof option, I highly recommend this aftermarket addition.

Re: Sunroof!!!

If you want a sunroof, all you have to do is call your local installer and buy one!

It'll cost you about $1200 for the standard sunroof; more for the panoramic. I've had my Hollandia sunroof for over a year now and I absolutely LOVE IT! There are various sunroof threads here, just do a search for them. I'd link them for you here, but I've gotta get out of the house to join a trail run to Bear Valley where we're going to do be Slickrock and Corral Hollow this weekend.

Enjoy!

Re: Sunroof!!!

X2, It'd be nice to have a sunroof as an option, probably won't use it too much, but at least it's there.

Re: Sunroof!!!

I believe the roof portion of the FJ is built more sturdier than the rest of the body. This is to endure falling rocks. Sunroof will defeat the purpose... but I must say, I really miss having a sunroof..

I've already heard the argument that installing a sunroof will weaken the roof and increase risk of injury.

Isn't that true of all cars w/sunroofs? What are the chances that you'll rollover your FJ and cause a complete cave-in of the roof killing you and/or your passengers, if any? The risk is there, but I think it's pretty slim. If you are really worried about that, just don't engage in any type of driving that enhances that risk or put in a full roll cage. Otherwise, I wouldn't (and don't) worry about it too much.

You can find a dealer who will install Hollandia sunroofs in Ohio here: Hollandia Sunroof Dealer Locator.

Re: Sunroof!!!

I'd love to have a sunroof but with the roof rack, and having my spare on top (which I absolutely love) it doesn't make sense. I do have a question tho...

Are you guys at all worried about the "flex" of four wheeling and the seal around the window? I know Fa~jay~jay twists a lot when we're wheeling.. just curious. Obviously no one's hopped on to complain about it...
