Different Tires...

The Dunlop GrandTrek AT20 tires that come on the FJ and many other Toyota SUV's are not of very good quality. I think it would be cool for the FJ to come standard with the BF Goodrich A/T tires and then with the Off-road package it comes with the BF Goodrich M/T tires. My car only has about 17500 miles on it and the Dunlop tires are close to the end of their life...

and i would think it would be cool if the offroad package included a diesel.

The only vehicle on the market that comes with MT's is the rubicon. And if you read reviews by magazines they bash how loud the tires are.

The TT FJ does come with BFG all terrains. You can get rugged trails on the offroad package which are okay at mild wheeling.

Are all of the tires near the end of their life??? That is VERRRRRRY premature for any tire (other than super swampers ha). That would lead me to think two thinks, you have used tires on your ride, or they were never rotated.

Re: Different Tires...

17500 and they are close to the end of their life? You may want to look into why.

Keep in mind not everone is buying an FJ to take offroad so Toyota has to do what's best for their bottom line. That's why the BFG's are an option and not standard.

Re: Different Tires...

Yeah the tires are close to the end of their life. I bought the car used though. But yes, all four tires have less tread than the tires on my dads car that has almost 80,000 miles on it...maybe the person that I had the car before I drove it hard.

I would check your tire pressure with wear that fast.

Re: Different Tires...

Very subjective statement that 17,000 mile tires have less tread than 80,000 mile tires. At face value I'd say that you and the previous owner have a heavier foot than your dad. I can easily wear a set of tires down to the cords in 17000 miles.

Re: Different Tires...

Today, June 10, 2009, I checked the PSI in all of my tires. They all came out

to a well rounded 35 PSI (I think that is what is recommended for street use).

So, I have came to the conclusion that it is just my paranoia that the tires are

wearing to fast...

(And probably because I'm trying to convince myself that I need new BFG All terrians... )

Agreed. I wear the tires out on my Saab every other year.

What they looked like when I took them off.

What they should look like.

Look at the size difference.

But I get going with my Saab. And take tight corners.

Not to mention what I do on my bike.

Re: Different Tires...

On my SUV, they last a good 45k miles.
