Spare Tire Bike Racks

Anybody have or use a bike rack that connects into the spare tire? If so any suggestions/recommendations?

Re: Spare Tire Bike Racks

I have a Thule spare tire mount Rack. Holds two bikes. Works great.

Yes, but the OP was looking for a spare mounted rack. Can you even open the door?

Yes the rack allows for you to extend it so that the door opens without taking it off the hitch, I forgot too include in the post that there many who do not like the use of spare tire racks because of the strain the bike's weight will cause to the spare tire mount.

Just throwing ideas out there for him to think about

OP here's a compilation of how FJ owners are carrying their bikes

I also have the Thule rack that mounts on the spare. I usually carry one bike and 94,000 thousand miles later I can feel the rear door 'drag' alittle when I shut the door with the bike one it........no big deal, but for that reason I try to only carry one bike. No drag with out the bike.

Re: Spare Tire Bike Racks

I just purchased the Thule rack at an REI garage sale event. Got it extra cheap and it works great.

Re: Spare Tire Bike Racks

I just bought the Hollywood spare tire rack as I have a 2010 and can't use the type that bolts to the rim.

Got it at sports chalet.

Re: Spare Tire Bike Racks

One of the forum members made a custom mount that sits behind the spare tire. It was pretty crafty. Don't recall which member it is.
