GOBI Rack Update

Hey guys, I have the Ranger with lights front and back. Just wanted to pass on some info that I got from Paul out in denver. Last week the bottom bracket that secures the ladder on my FJ just fell off! Luckily this happened at home. I re-attached it and then contacted paul. He mentioned that they got updated plans from toyota that showed they needed to modify the bracket. Anyway, he is sending one out to me.

Also, I climbed up there yesterday to do some cleaning and work and found a few spots on the frame and rack where there appears to be the slightest amount of rust. He said that this is probably where it just didn't quite get a full coverage of the powder black paint. He said that the rack itself has a very strong undercoating of anti-rust primer to protect it. He is sending out a kit with a brush and paint, etc to take care of the problem.

Anyway, GOBI RULES! they're great, paul is awesome and the product is second to none. Way to go GOBI.

Re: GOBI Rack Update

if the product was second to none then it wouldn't have rusted or fallen apart....you seem awfully happy about something that cost 1500+ and has rusted and is poorly designed and has fallen apart.....i would not be quite as happy........is the rusting normal?...i mean if they have a paint and brush kit that sounds bad.....just MHO

I had the same problem. It happened while out at a Trail Team event, but I was still lucky enough to notice it when it happened. I thought the attachment method wasn't all that good. I'll give them a call as well. Thanks.

Nevertheless, I am also very happy with the rack (Stealth). It did a great job of holding the kayak I bought this weekend.
