Re: powder coating.

I'm not sure about color-matched but after watching many episodes of American Chopper I'm pretty certain that there is more than just black Powder Coat.

Re: powder coating.

I don't think the color matching is as accurate as maybe paint is, but it can be done by the larger firms. I believe the smaller guys pretty much order stock colors or get custom mixes sent to them. However, technology moves fast and they may have capabilities today that didn't exist a couple of years ago.

Ditto on that American Chopper thing. I have seen on episodes of Biker Build-off where they custom made powdercoat to match a paint color. I saw it on Indian Larry's last chopper build. It was this awesome purple powdercoat. So I think it can be done.

+1

It is no big deal, even the smaller PC shops have access to a lot of colors.

Re: powder coating.

Can you powder coat over a part that is already powder coated if you want to change the color or do you have to strip it first?

Re: powder coating.

What you need to do is look on the Tiger Drylac site Best in Powder Coatings - Tiger Drylac USA: startsite
I would ask them to send you a chart as color with light (monitor) is very different than color with paint. Any powder coater can easily get one of the RAL numbers and powder coat with that color (you would just tell them I need "RAL xxxx")

To match a color (like Sherwin Willimams would do with wet paint where you bring in a chip or sample to match) is much more expensive and there will be a looooonnnng wait.

There are a lot of RAL numbers to choose from, though.

I hope this helps.

I was wondering the same thing, except I wanted to apply Line X, or Rhino Lining, over powder coat.

They will usually need to strip (sand blast, actually) the metal in order to get metal to metal contact needed for powder coating.

I don't know what the prep would need to be to apply Rhino lining.
