Re: Official HID Retrofit Thread

Thanks Nestor! At least now I can see why you showed people how to properly cut the stock boot earlier in this thread. I'm running the TRS Mini in my little 4" fog lights already, but I can't justify doing my main headlights due to the loss in range over the halogen. The halogens don't put out anywhere near as much light, but on low beam, they throw farther down the road without blinding anyone. Is this an issue for anyone else?

Re: Official HID Retrofit Thread

Nestor did a set for me and the range is great. The difference is really night and day! They easily adjust so the cut off line is low enough that they don't blind people in low sedans yet it's high enough that I can easily see beyond my stopping distance at high speed. It's really easy to adjust these but clearly there are a lot of people who have them too high or low.
We have two FJ's one retrofitted the other is still stock so I get a constant reminder of how pathetic stock halogens are. I'm hoping to get a second set done by Nestor soon.

Re: Official HID Retrofit Thread

I've got the same HIDs in my FJ, but I've never been happy with only HIDs in my other vehicles either. I love them for how wide the beam is (great for deer spotting), but not the long range. I've got mine adjusted as high as I can. Even when I load 100 lbs in the rear of the truck, I get flashed about once per mile, but as they are now, I don't get flashed at all.

I know this is a personal preference for me since everyone else loves HIDs in stock form and when retrofit. I love them as well, but I don't feel safe on back roads with only low beams on since I can't see far enough down the road.

I love the look of the HIDs in the headlights and I keep debating on retrofitting those as well since I'm thinking 4 HIDs would probably get better range down the road, even with the cutoff factored in. Pros and Cons for me, I just don't know what I want to do...

I'm currently testing this setup, just in case you will be in the Bay Area this Christmas for you to check them out.

Panamera shroud with clear insert and frame painted black, 100mm LED ring in cool white, headlamps reflector or bowl painted low gloss high (500 F) temp engine enamel paint, 55w ballast/6000K D2S bulb ;
