Are you sure? I saw it in person and it sure look painted on....plus if you look at the pictures closely, you can see some overspray around the hinges.
Back on topic* Would it be problematic if I cut the tip off? Would it cause further heat to build up underneath the rear cabin (seems like a problem already)?

The yellow FJ from the Rubicon....the tip got smashed so bad, it actually whistled....wish I saw it, but I bet there are pics somewhere in the NorCal TTORA gallery....
My exhaust pipe whistles sometimes too. Oh, the truck? No, that one's fine.

No need for cutting, the bling chrome tip is held on with a worm-drive radiator hose clamp. Take it off with a screwdriver.
