AMI Locking Fuel Door - Anyone regret installing?

I am looking at an AMI locking fuel door for my brand new FJ. I am now wrestling with whether I actually want to install this door.

I've read comments about shoddy install (need to drill extra holes and use additional screws), poor powder-coating, and overall fit and finish.

I just want to be sure I want this mod on a brand new vehicle.

Anyone with install horror stories or regrets after install?

What makes it a pain? Does the door latch have trouble opening/closing?

Did you install it just using the two longer bolts provided or did you add extras?

Thanks.

Re: AMI Locking Fuel Door - Anyone regret installing?

It is a bit of a pain to install I never did get all the corners flush. But I did get it close. It's good to have a locking gas door and I like the way it looks. I just got one for our 2nd FJ and plan on rereading the thread on it to see if I can get this one to go on better.

You do have to fiddle with it until you are happy with fit and finish. After that I don't even think about it anymore.

Re: AMI Locking Fuel Door - Anyone regret installing?

I much prefer the look, but I also couldnt get it exactly flush. I guess I could go back and drill some holes and get some new screws for a proper install, but it still works as is.

Re: AMI Locking Fuel Door - Anyone regret installing?

Those of you commenting, did you just secure it with the two screws provided or did you secure it with additional screws/drilled holes? If drilling into the metal, do you need a specific drill bit?

Re: AMI Locking Fuel Door - Anyone regret installing?

I didn't need to drill any extra holes and just used the provided screws. If you do want to drill I recommend getting a step drill bit. You get very clean holes in sheet metal as it doesn't pull like a twist bit does and doesn't skate as easily either. These are good quality and inexpensive
