Home Grown Lens Covers

Hey List, I've been kicking around the idea of buying some of the AeroFlow lens covers, I've also looked at the Rockblocker film. Well, this morning it was raining so I went into my garage and found out that I had a creative bug up my arse. I have an old pair of lens covers for my old british car that were just laying around in my garage. So, I took them out to the FJ to see if they were the correct size for the FJ's Lens. They are!

How I did it:
Took an old pair of Lens Covers and drilled some holes in them.

Cut tabs down, and filed edges.

Primed them.

Painted them.

Hung them.

Not bad.

I like them, they should offer good protection from rocks.

AeroFlow Lens covers $50.00 or more.
Rock Blocker Film $??.??

An old pair of lens covers laying around in the garage on a rainy morning, some paint, a few screws, a little fabrication, and...
A free pair of Lens Covers that took me about 30 minutes to make,

PRICELESS!

Re: Home Grown Lens Covers

Go to Ace Hardware and get screws with a Hex head or at least Square Drive - the phillips heads make it look cheap. I rarely say anything, but since that can be done for .50 .... otherwise - very creative work there.

Re: Home Grown Lens Covers

I would have pulled the entire plastic grill off and flipped the tabs in and attached the lens cover with the tabs hidden. (much cleaner)

You would have to leave just enough space behind the grill to clean the head lamp off. Just an observation. The wood screws don't cut it.

Re: Home Grown Lens Covers

I like my tabs. And, I don't care about the screw heads. I also like knowing that I won't need to remove the entire plastic peace everytime I want to clean my headlight lenses off. And by far the part I like the best is this was FREE. Thanks for the positive comments.
