ARB Roof Rack Install with Pics and Guide

First, let me start by posting some pictures of the installed rack. Not only is it built to take a beating, it looks good doing it too.

Now the question everyone wants to know: How tall is it?

Here’s a pic of the center showing that the top of the rack is 8 ¼” taller than the top of the roof.

Here’s a pic showing the height up front just for reference. The rack is higher on the front of the FJ because of the curved roof line but the rack is level and is 8 ¼” taller than the top of the roof.

Now, how do you install it?

Remove your stock roof rack or roof covers. Take out all the bolts and the brackets. Put the supplied rubber seal around the mount holes. It is easiest to press the edges down with a flat blade screwdriver. Install the rack mounts using the 6x30mm bolts with flat washers. Now it’s time to call a buddy to help lift the rack onto the top of the FJ. I found the easiest way to do that is lift the rack from the back of the FJ perpendicular to it and rotate it once you get it on top. Install the 6x20mm bolts with flat washers, lock washers, and L brackets as shown below.

Tip
Use a 1/4" drive 6mm Allen wrench socket, extension, and ratchet setup instead of the supplied Allen wrench.

Re: ARB Roof Rack Install with Pics and Guide

Very nice!
Usually I never tell guy he has a nice rack, but I will make an exception in your case

If I did not have the factory rack and modded it already to suit my needs, I would get the ARB one for sure.

Looks very good.

I don't see any images. Not even a little box with an "X" in it like I usually do when my computer won't open an image.

Looks much better than the Gobi. Recommend we keep this thread going and add to it with tool mounts, accessories, etc.

Re: ARB Roof Rack Install with Pics and Guide

Those look like round tubes on the side, no reason Luke's modular round rings will not fit it if you get the diameter.
FOURTREKS HOME

That is my rig on his page, and you can see the Hi-Lift mount of his there above.
Hi-Lift Roll Bar Mounts 1.75

He is also working on using those rubber Quick Fist mounts, and I will be ordering the axe/shovel one soon from him.

Re: ARB Roof Rack Install with Pics and Guide

Mine should be at my house on wednesday. Cant wait. WIll also post pics on the mount install also.
On the ARB site it lists the the top tube is 1" so Fourtreks has a mount for it.

Re: ARB Roof Rack Install with Pics and Guide

Thanks for this. I think I've found my rack now. My FJ came without a factory rack, which I didn't want. I thought I wanted the Wilderness, but I think I'd rather have a round tube rack. Just have to decide now if I want it with the mesh or without.

Re: ARB Roof Rack Install with Pics and Guide

Looks nice,
Two Questions.... How is the road noise? Does it have mounting holes for lights, front and rear?
Thanks in advance
