Here's mine. Finally taken with a phonecam. Sorry for the quality.
When i started, my intention was to paint it a dark charcoal metallic. It was turning out great-until i got to the bottom of the can and spritzed some droplets onto the bezel....aaarrrrgh! Since the store that I bought it from was closed, i could only do one thing- use the black that I had for the bumper and mirrors.
Looks good now, but I may buy more charcoal and do it up again.
I Have been subscribed to this thread for some time now. Thank you everyone for all the cool combinations. My goal was to get rid of the silver and make everything in the yellow area disappear. I decided to try a combination I havent seen.
Here is the result
After looking at the side of my truck I decided to color match the handles and mirror mounts in a Sun Fusion yellow. Then black out the mirrors and bumpers.
The way I went about this is..
I went to a auto paint supply house called Space Age in Mesa, AZ . The paint tech came out to my truck and got a 3 digit number off the Drivers door edge and referenced it in his computer. The nice thing was it listed the code for the Sun Fusion and also the white roof. He made a pint of white and a 1/2 pint of sun fusion. I asked him to make me 2 rattle cans of each color, so it wouldnt be a big affair to set up my sprayer. I still have enough paint to make more cans too. I also bought a rattle can of bulldog adhesion promoter, Krylon industrial tough coat clear gloss topcoat no. 01000, Krylon industrial tough coat, semi flat black Acrylic enamel.
I did the door handle in place. I just took my time and taped everything well.
took the mirrors off and prepped them. scuffed surfaces with fine steel wool. blew off. cleaned and sprayed 2 coats of adhesion promoter. waited till dry and sprayed the sufu yellow, 2 coats . Dried again and clear coated 2 coats.
tha color match is pretty close.
the black parts were pretty simple. everything was done the same except for the clearcoat.
The grill bezel was prepped the same. I did remove grill from the bezel and sprayed the bezel roof white . The time consuming part was taping off the lettering. Since thats a part of what I do for a living I just sat on the couch , watched tv, with a exacto knife and a roll of blue tape. the most difficult part was the little piece you need to cut for the center of the A in TOYOTA
I have less the $ 100 into the whole project. It took about a day to do it all.
By the way, My bud builts were already done in a previous session
Thanks
Don
The door handles and mirrors are awesome like that. Has me rethinking going all black. More detail on how you got matching paint in spray cans please.

Thanks, Dragon!! Ironically, when you were posting this comment, I was just re-reading your "black out" thread.
Question about the prep for the mirrors and handles: Did you sand prior to the adhension promoter that you mentioned??
I did not. The adhesion promoter almost ... well, it seems as if it kind of breaks down the stock paint and makes it tacky (you're not supposed to let it dry too long) and the paint really bonds to it after that. If you want to be safe (in case you miss a spot sanding or miss a spot with the promoter) just do both. An extra half hour is all it will take and you'll have peace of mind.
....but,
Those mirrors are great targets for branches on the trail, at least here in the deciduous midwest. The only places I have had to touch up is where branches have hit multiple times, and even then it did not get down to the silver, it just made it look like ... like ... well like branches have raked across it.
Masking the mirror light was tricky. The rest of the masking was just labor intensive. If I had to do it over again I would have done it the same way.
And, you've now given me the courage to give the mirrors and handles a shot (figuratively and literally).
I will just add a side note. When I decided to paint mine, I did the door handles in place, but chose to remove the one mirror, so I could do a better job. Since I painted mine yellow instead of black , the gasket around the mirror, I elected to leave black. Removing the mirror wasn't a big deal really. Then I tried to do one in place. I will remove them if I have to paint again. It was a much cleaner job. If you are just painting them black, you couldnt see any bad edges
This is an FYI for matching color specific mirrors.
