Re: paint protectants

I wouldn't apply anything except mutiple coats of a high quality wax. Most places I've seen that apply these clearshields advise to change them ferquently, not to have paint damage. Think about it. If it works to apply only one, they would go out of biz.

Re: paint protectants

Black does indeed show everything. Its extremely difficult to maintain a black finish. If you don't do basic things like wash the surface by hand, in linear strokes, you'll have swirl mark city within a year of ownership. The reason is because the clear coat is backgrounded by black, thus showing every flaw in the clear coat, including poor washing technique. In trucks, most don't care because hell, they're trucks! They go offroad and get dirty!

But in automobiles, folks tend to care alittle more.

Regarding the masking causing orange peel, I say impossible. The clear coat is baked on, the adhesive they use to apply the masking will not damage the clear coat. If anything, the masking magnifies what orange peel was already in the paint.

What is proper washing technique? No, seriously, I want to know.

read these:

We Are Car Care ! Car Wax - Car Polish - Auto Detailing Supplies & Car Accessories

Car Detailing Supplies, Car Wax, Car Polishers, Car Care Products

Washing

BTW, most expensive cars like Porsche and Ferrari will have some sort of 3m paint protection. I've even seen some with the whole car wrapped in it.

Carwash?
Don't forget, linear stroke, flip the wash mitt, use the other side. DO NOT go in circles! (And NEVER use dish wash detergent, unless you want to strip the wax before doing a full detail)

Any questions PM me. I've detailed a hella lot of cars in my time.
