Question Water Drainage from Mirrors

This is pretty annoying so I thought I would see if anyone tackled this problem. When you wash your FJ and then dry it off, When you get to your destination dried up water is all over both doors due to this issue. You then proceed to clean it up with a wet rag. You have to this continuously. Is there a way to maybe get a gasket or something to stop this annoying behavior?

Re: Water Drainage from Mirrors

That annoys me as well. I think it would not be possible though. This past weekend, I disassembled both mirrors completely to paint them. I seperated the gray body from the black frame and also removed the spring inside to seperate the mirror body from the base that bolts to the door. After seeing the inside, I now understand where all of the water comes from. I was contemplating, but decided against it, drilling a few small holes in the bottom of the gray body (the body that houses the marker light) so the water could drain out. I think this would help but could not bring myself to drill holes in a perfectly good mirror. They would not be visible unless you looked under the morror. Maybe I will do that sometime in the future.

I think this would solve the issue. I know what you mean though. I couldn't put a drill to my FJ. It would be solved easier if the mirrors tilted forward just for this purpose. Thanks for the info..

Re: Water Drainage from Mirrors

Methinks you guys should have bought the "automagic mirror drain option" instead of heated seats. I have found that if I jack the front end up about
3' after washing my FJ, the water runs out.

I don't think tilting would help either. The water gets caught behind that black frame that goes up behind the mirror. Maybe you could remove the glass and drill a few small holes horizontally in that black frame so the water would flow out the front better (under the mirror glass).

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks

Re: Water Drainage from Mirrors

Same, I spend 3-4 hours washing and cleaning Opus and those water lines are annoying. I keep a bottle of Maguier's Detail spray handy for a couple days afterwards.

And here I was, wondering what they were talking about!

Although, I will say that the water that drains from above the middle of the rear window is more frustrating than anything.. as far as that goes.
