Removal of 'new style' oval toyota badge?

I'm thinking of removing the new style oval toyota badge from the rear of my rig. I've always hated that thing since it was introduced, always preferred the old spelled-out "TOYOTA" instead. I just wish I could remove it from my steering wheel, too.

Has anyone done this, know how it's attached? Is it simply bonded with an adhesive, or is it more firmly attached or bolted on from the other side of the sheet metal? I'm going to take a gentle look at it with a plastic or wooden tool today, but thought I'd ask around. Any info appreciated.

It's only an adhesive. Warm it up with a hair dryer and work a piece of fishing line behind it, sawing back and forth as you work the line all the way through. I have removed all of the badging and re glued that one on here What I did to the Toyota Emblem

It is just "glued" on with adhesive tape - if you warm it up with a heat gun or hair drier and use a plastic trim tool (or a poly putty knife) it should come right off with a little gentle pressure. Do make sure that both the tool and the surrounding area are clean before you do this - you don't want to be grinding any dirt into the paint.

Thanks folks. I'll pull out the hair dryer a little later and go to it.

I just used a hair dryer. Warmed it up a bit and then peeled the emblem right off. No fishing line or dental floss. It just peeled off. Don't get it too hot as you could damage your paint. Be patient.

I second that, I washed my truck, but there was still some salt residue in the crevices of the emblems. So, I ended up with some micro-fine scratches that will certainly buff out. I don't know what kind of paint Toyota is using but my black iPod is more scratch resistant.

Good post Dragon, I too removed all my emblems from my vehicles in the past. I need to remove the Toyota emblem from my new FJ too. Thanks for reminding me

I just left mine out in the California sun (February) and it came off with dental floss. I prefer floss to fishing line as it isn't as likely to scratch.

Thin Plastic Spatula. Be patient and make it one smooth single pass. It'll come off without a hair dryer. I removed both on the left rear, without so much as a mark. You can use your fingers to remove any leftover adhesive. All that is left is the FJ Cruiser on the right rear...

Re: Removal of 'new style' oval toyota badge?

I just peeled it off with my fingers. Used some glue de-adhesive for minor sticky stuff left behind. Dont pull too hard, as you could put a dent in the gate.
