Re: 7 On Your Side Wants Emails Re: Windshield Problems

All,

Here is a recent update from Ross Mclaughlin.

Toyota wants to hear from anyone who has had a crack where there’s no evidence of impact. They’ll send a field investigator out. They are taking some action, I’ll tell you when you call.

This response doesn't bode too well. This will probably cut the number of 'issues' way down. The only way Honda was forced to warranty the windshield is becuase they were cracking...all by themselves. Most FJ windshields seem to be cracking from impact. I haven't had a broken one yet (15,000 miles), but I do wish you luck. My insurance will cover one windshield a year...I think I've only ever replaced 2 in my life...I would be pretty worried if I had to replace 2 or more in a year. That's a lot of out of pocket money.

Re: 7 On Your Side Wants Emails Re: Windshield Problems

I honestly believe that these cracks are related to the stress the windshield is under and that is why a tiny pebble can break these windshields so easily.

I agree with that as a distinct possibility. I just hope Toyota goes along with it. I'm very interested to see how this works.

Send them to my house then...I took mine into the dealer and I'm telling ya...they were hard pressed to find an actual impact...of course they did, cause if they didn't they would have had a stress related issue and not a rock hitting the windshield.

I to this day believe nothing hit my windshield and it was a stress crack and I have yet to get it replaced due to I'm waiting for nicer weather to get a good seal.

FJ4GD,

Send Ross McLaughlin an email asking him to send Toyota to look at yours.

Ron

Re: 7 On Your Side Wants Emails Re: Windshield Problems

Toyota's spin doctors are asking for windshields with no evidence of impact as their first counter. It's just a numbers game. At this point, as long as we don't let them off the hook they will, in the end, do the right thing.

I guarantee the Toyota Six Sigma engineers have already calculated the statistical probability that they would have x% windows break in a normal population. It's basic statistical probability. Heck I could do the calculation if I knew the number of windows that have broken in the rest of the population.

They know they have a problem, now it's just spin to reduce their financial exposure.

Re: 7 On Your Side Wants Emails Re: Windshield Problems

Sometimes spin doctors suggest doing the right thing as one way to help maintain reputation. Guess we will find out soon enough.
