I do not understand how anyone could think that dealing with broken windshields on any vehicle would be "normal" TOYOTA designed and manufactured this vehicle, there is an obvious issue with the glass so step up to the plate and handle it. Pretty simple actually.

Re: 7 On Your Side Wants Emails Re: Windshield Problems

Email sent.......Thanks to RonDeF for driving this issue with WJLA

Ross,

I understand you are looking into the strength of Toyota FJ Cruiser windshields.

I purchased my FJ last September. Thus far I have one small chip which Banner Glass filed and one large chip (size of a dime) that is in the drivers line of view that they did not fill......reason being even with the filling the vehicle will fail inspection.

It's up for inspection in August, so as not to have too many replacements in one year, since in my mind there is clearly a problem with the quality of the glass Toyota is using, I will drive with this chip until August and get the windshield replaced shortly before inspection.

I can send you a photo if you need it for the story.

Thank you for your attention to this issue.

Re: 7 On Your Side Wants Emails Re: Windshield Problems

I also sent an email. I have only got a small crack, dead center, that I had "fixed" within an hour of happening, and so far it hasn't spread. I can't believe all the nay-sayers. I too purchased a 1st-year product knowing some issues would surface. But a windshield that costs anywhere from $700-1200 is a bit much. I think Toyota makes some of the best quality products in the world, and my FJ is no exception. But the windshield is a design/quality problem! And I believe, in the end, they'll accept that responsibility and do whatever is deemed necessary. But first you have to establish that problem. This is a step in the right direction!

Re: 7 On Your Side Wants Emails Re: Windshield Problems

Here is a couple of updates I just received from Ross McLaughlin (7 on your side).

Ross,

Did you get many emails from the folks on the forum? I posted your
email address around 5:30PM yesterday afternoon. You should continue to
receive more today and this evening. Once again thank you for all that
you are doing for us, we really appreciate it.

Yes getting quite a few thanks. We are not sure about a rally yet but be
patient we will let you know. I have alerted the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration about this. They are interested. It's
important for everyone with a concern or problem to report it.
Here's a link. Please do this as soon as possible. I emailed everyone
back to tell them to do the same. Perhaps a posting would help. Check
out the link. Look on the left for complaint and to file a complaint.

We need to get video of someone getting their windshield replaced. Best
to get a mobile unit or something like that or replaced at a family
owned glass shop. Can you help.

In my post I referenced the FJ poll located on the home page and stated approximately 300. There are currently 1316 votes with 29.26% broken. According to my math that equates to 385.0616 so, I stand corrected and will round up to 400. I do not have time nor do I care to read all of the windshield threads.
The problem is the poll under-reports. People have voted "it's fine"... then a week later it breaks, but you can't change your vote. So, not only can you not remove your "it's fine" vote, which would change the percentage, but you can't add your "it's broken" vote, which would change the percentage a second time. This is a huge flaw in the poll... if it were fixed the numbers would change dramatically due to the "double dipping mistake" in counting.

In addition, there is no option for people with chips and pits, but no crack. My vehicle has 1500 miles on it and the window looks far worse the an the vehicle I just sold with 66K miles on it. I hate driving east at sunrise or west at sunset. It looks like my windshield has bugs all over it, but those are permanent marks in the glass.
