Re: LivingPost: Users guide to detailing

OK. I went all Griots. Speed wash (to lubricate the clay bar and for washes when you don't feel like getting out the hose), Clay bar, Random Orbital sander, various micro-fiber towels, cleanning mitt, Machine polish #2 and #3 (#1 on the way). Best of show wax OR paint sealer, interior cleaner, dry wax remover and glass cleaner.

It all works great + staff is extremely knowledgable on the phone. Also recommend the detailer's booklet and/or the DVD on how to use the power tool.

If I had it to do over, I'd get bonnets for the orbital to remove polish and wax too.

Ooh, great idea! I was having the same problem following all the recommendations. I've got bookmarks all over. Rep points for you - don't spend them all in one place.

Re: LivingPost: Users guide to detailing

Up until now, it has been turtle wax and elbow grease. Thanks for gathering it all in one place.

Thanks for the Rep points. I thought this was a good idea, but not getting as many responses as I expected.

Re: LivingPost: Users guide to detailing

This could get interesting. Opinions on detailing products and techniques are like assholes, everyone has one!

as for my poison, a quick breakdown of the products I use for typical full detail are as follows:

-wash car with dawn soap then claybar w/ Meguiars Quick Detail Spray (currently have a Mothers clay bar, but any brand will do for me)

-polish with porter cable and Menzerna twins

-"polish" (although I consider it more of a gloss) with P21S Gloss enhancing paint cleanser (gepc).

-finish it off by waxing with Rejex, and letting that cure for 12 hours before driving.

Good idea Terahex! You're missing my favorite though. Zymol. 61% white Brazilian No.1 carnuba. Mmmmmm....., and they're HD Cleanse is a great, mild alternative to clay bar for more frequent paint cleaning.

Great post Terahex. I've been using Meguiar's so far and my baby looks great.
