I was wondering if you can line-x plastic? I think it would be cool to line-x the plastic fenders, trim at the bottom and near the bumper, but I'm not sur eif you can Line-x it or not?
Thought about doing this when I had the rig apart as well, can't think of an issue with it. Keep us posted if you do. I think it would be a functional upgrade, and alot more durable.
i bet its possible, but you might have issues getting it to stick well. prep would be the key with that, but i'm just not sure how well it likes plastic. call up your local bedliner shop. definitly have them do it, the stuff in a can is worthless and the gun to shoot the stuff is pricey, but definitly prep it yourself to keep the cost down.
I talked to a Line-X guy who told me he could coat all the exterior plastic on my FJ. But it was gonna cost well over a grand, and I think it would flake off from abrasion / time. Durabak might hold up better and you can apply it youself. If you haven't seen this there are some great pics of of rigs painted with Durabak if you go to this Link and scroll down, and it's supposedly "scratchproof". https://www.durabakcompany.com/scratchguard.htm
It can be done. I've got a buddy that owns a line-x shop, and he has sprayed everything in his showroom, down to the crown molding and baseboards. He even lined a football.
Over a Grand just for the plastic?? That seems crazy expensive.
I agree. This was an experienced guy who works at a 4x4 shop and was recommended by jeep guys as doing a great job. But I wasn't going to pay that much, and I haven't checked other places. Everything I've heard and read about Durabak has been positive, so I'm thinking about getting a gallon of Black for $80 and trying it on my mudflaps. If it's as tough as I hear I'd like to paint my whole rig Sand color with Durabak in a few years.
