Nice work! A simple solution for the gas cans.

Very nice job Steve. I will be doing this MOD myself. I'm also thinking of getting a pelican case to put recovery gear along with some extra FJ parts, belts, hoses, CV, etc. Great job

Looks great! Hmmm, I wonder if it's possible to buy spare cross members. Several extra cross members, and Steve's idea, could really turn the factory rack into something useful.

Thanks, Tony. I didn't get a price on them, but the dealership's parts department said the crossbars are available individually, since a lot of customers either lose them, break them, have them stolen or just want a few more. Since they come in different lengths (depending on their intended location on the rack), I suspect you'll have to specify a specific part #.

Where to purchase extra crossbars for the OEM roof rack?

From an aerodynamic standpoint, there may be another benefit to this mod and that is noise reduction. Can you run your rig like maybe in a 70mph cruise config for us and see if you notice any improvement over the stock location?

Re: Roof rack crossbar mod: 3 is stronger than 1 (pics)

After I saw this mod I went outside and moved my bars also. It works great but then I got to thinking that I wish that I had a little more room. So now I'm planning on going through some junkyards to see if i can find a wrecked FJ and taking the bars...and maybe the ATrac switch...
