Joel, you rock (except in your theory about astrophysics! ha!) In case you can't try it in the northwest, I bought a pair of HID's from one of our site vendors (xenonlink) and they are amazing! You have to aim your lights down a little to avoid blinding others, but the improvement is unbelievable (35 watt low beam HIDs that have 55 Watt high beams). You just do not need high beams anymore with these! Hope this helps.
did you retrofit a projector into the housing? Also, where did you mount the ballast?

No projector lens, just straight bulb swap. The ballasts fit laying flat on the ledge directly below the lights. There are existing holes in the body to mount the brackets that hold the ballasts, or if you wanted, I guess you could just use the mounting tape.

Re: Complete Headlight Bulb Comparison Thread

Would a moderator please make this a sticky?

FJoel, this topic has never been thoroughly research presented before, and your interest to take this project on is excellent and what makes this forum great. The resulting comparisons will be valuable to all FJ Cruiser owners.

Regards, Ken

Any chance that you could include Raybrig bulbs to the review?

Thanks, I'll see if I can afford to pick those up on payday as well, otherwise we might be pushing this out another 2 weeks!

Holy Crap that site has a lot of H4 bulbs... I think we are going to have to stick with the most popular ones after this addition.

I am going to be broke and up to my eyeballs in headlights!

Re: Complete Headlight Bulb Comparison Thread

Joel - I'm an idiot

Now that's out of the way my silly a$$ questions may not sound so stupid.

(1) Do the FJ headlights have 3 bulbs - daytime, low and high? Are you only changing out the high beam?

(2) I haven't ever cracked the light open. What is involved in removing the housing and installing new bulbs (keeping in mind that I'm an idiot)?

Thanks - yes this would be a good sticky...except that where some only thought I was an idiot, now they have a written confession.
