Re: New FJ Storage products

I've repaired the OME racks about 4 times now and I'm ready to set them on fire

Of course I've probably got twice the weight in them then they are rated for

Anyway - when will these be available and can you fit 2 of them on the door like the OEM racks.

Also I'll second the question - how does the rack attach to the door?

Edit:

So let me get the combo deal clear;

FJ Cruiser Combo Special ($260)

FJ front door pouches (pair)
FJ Rear hidden compartment bag (one)
FJ M-Pac Rack (each)
Medium twin buckle pouch (pair)
Large Utility Pouch (two)

$260 For all of those ??

Re: New FJ Storage products

I don't expect you to destroy a rear door panel, but I wouldn't purchase these items unless you could at least provide a "suggested maximum weight" for the rear door rack system. Your website is ambiguous about that particular detail.

That is why I want to know how it attaches. If it attaches through the plastic into the door frame that will be much more weight baring. In fact I would probably modify it so it does attach to the door and not just the plastic interior panel.

I was thinking along the same lines - maybe a backing plate made out of aluminum or backing plates to screw into so it's not pulling against plastic. I could fab that myself if it doesn't come with that sort of solution. OTHERWISE you know the screws will pull out eventually

My thoughts exactly. I don't see how it could only be attached to the plastic and hold anything.

Re: New FJ Storage products

I have had the prototype rack mounted on my TRD for over 1 month and have loaded it with items such as recovery tow ropes, 1st aid kits and other such items. Probably and average of 15-20 pounds usually. I have not experienced any stress in the plastic at all.

The rack is attached through the plastic by eight 6mm bolts that are backed with four 1 inch washers and four 2 inch washers. they are secured by locking nuts. The rack itself is constructed of 16 guage aluminium that is formed and welded...very strong unit, the buckled bags are mil-spec MOLLE units that are rated to ammunition type weight. The weak link is what it is bolted to. I had similar concerns in the beginning but have not had any problems at all. In addition, the engineer has assured us that this is more than adequate for the desired purpose.

The website is actually quite clear that this rack is designed for light items and is not rated. It is not designed to haul really heavy items.

Hindsight will be posting the installation instructions in the Springtail vendor area this week...there will be photos and you can make your own decisions.

I was just thinking of standoffs between the plastic and door skin and probably nut clips on the internal door skin itself.

Guess I'll just have to take the panel off and figure something out.

When will these be arriving at my door again?
