Back Breaking

Hello all,
I love my FJ, but the seats are killing me nd my girlfriend. After justa 2 hour drive we are shot from the seats. I was thinking of trading it in at one point.

My questions are.
1.) Can I put 4Runner seats in place of the standard FJ seats. Yah know the electric ones with the inflate and deflate lumbar supports.

2.)Will they fit and if not what type of seats with these features would work.

3.)How hard is it to wire them up and get them to work without setting an electrical fire under me and my girlfriends butts!!

Thank you very much Dave

Might be cheaper to have them redone by an upholstry <sp> shop or get some wet okole seat covers with an inflatable lumbar support.

Re: Back Breaking

I know it took me a while to get the seat postion just right, but I did eventualy find it. In mose vehicles I have to put the seat all the way back, down and some tilt to fit, turns out with the FJ this is not so.

Have you tried different settings?

I have to agree. I have gotten used to it now though. On my trip to AZ in the summer it wasn't bad at all...although I dont think I really thought about it, haven't seen my girlfriend in a month and she was in AZ and I was stealing her!!

Not a bad idea. Thats if this works. The other thing is I have driven my girfriends car which has these seats and myself and her dont have the issues we have after being in the FJ.
Thats why I was looking to get the heated ones also.

Thanks Dave

Tried every position there is. Shoot I even went as far to get those lumbar supports from Sharper Image. The memory foam ones. They only help a little.

I know when i'm in her car its much easier with the lumbar and heat.

Thanks Dave

I have this same problem. Does any have an answer to mcstemp9's question other than those already posted. I would like to be able to find a seat that does not cost $3200.00 (Recaro) that would bolt into the existing place. Thanks in advance to any responces.

Re: Back Breaking

I do not have personal experience with mounting different seats in the FJ but have done it in other vehicles. The odds of any seat being a direct bolt in are slim. You will most likely have to fabricate some sort of mount either using the existing FJ seat brackets or adapting the brackets of the new seat to the FJ (new holes)

The electric for controls of the seat and seat heaters are a simple matter of running power to them. After riding in my girlfriends car this winter with heated seats, they are on my list of things to do in the FJ.

First thing I would do is measure the space available for seats in the FJ and then go to an auto salvage yard and start looking at seats. Amazing what you will find. Good luck with the project!!

Really? A buddy and I drove to North Carolina (8 hour drive) and both of use were saying that we were surprised at how comfortable the seats were.

Re: Back Breaking

X2, I drove from Toronto to the Sault and back (~9 hrs each way) and the only issue I had was when I forgot to take my wallet out of my back pocket after a fill up...maybe I just have more 'custom' padding in my seat.
