Interior / Exterior Visual TechThis section contains discussion related to visual modifications of the Toyota FJ Cruiser. Some items might include dash kits, roof rack modifications and other visual modifications.
I've had mine for 4 months now and it's absolutely the BEST thing I've bought for my FJ. Really brightens up the interior during the day & no wind blast when open at speed. Sometimes SO much light comes in I have to wear a cap or close the sunroof in order to cut the glare. Also bought the maplight too, which functions just like a factory light -- it lights up the interior lights automatically when you turn off your ignition or open the doors and there are 2 separate manually operated spot (or map) lights as well.
It'll cost about $1100 for the sunroof and maplight. You don't have to get the maplight, but it's worth doing it for the $75 extra that it costs.

I believe the installation of a sunroof in the FJ, considering the way it's engineered, would have a negative effect on the torsional stability of the body and place too great a load on the glass in the sunroof. Thoughts?

I'm not an engineer, but I took my FJ to Prairie City OHV Park and did the obstacle course, including the stairstep boulder climb and the frame flexer gully w/o a peep out of my sunroof. Also took it trail running over rocks in Mono Lake/Bodie without any noticeable effect.

I have had my sunroof for 13000 miles and if you look at my trip reports I am not shy in my offroading.
I have a gobi rack with a custom cut of for the roof so not sure if that changes your structural thoughts.
I love my sunroof and have noticed no ill effects at all.
I love the pics I can get by standing up thru in while on the trail (either when I am stopped or when my son is driving).
Get a sunroof you will love it

Here is a pic of mine if you want an idea of how it will look
This looks nice, but does it slide open? Doesn't look like it.
Mine's a traditional style sunroof, which slides open over the front seats and I believe there's a "panoramic" sunroof, even larger than yours, that has a fixed center section and slides open in the front and rear, but, because of the size, I don't think you can (or would want to) use it with a roof rack.

I have found this not to be the case , i have done several rock crawling trips and never had any neg... no noise . no damage.... the large webasto panoramic has held up great... my favorite mod as well, besides the skids and winch...
