Yakima Roof Rack for FJ

Does anyone know if Yakima is making attachments/towers for the FJ? There is no info at their site. I have some yakima accessories that I want to use. And I rather mount my bike via the fork (more stable) rather than the totoya type where the front tire is being grabbed.

TIA

The vehicle is too new for Yakima or Thule to have produced anything yet. Both Yakima and Thule engineers design specific rack attachments for each individual vehicle. Although there may be some existing equiptment from either manufacturer that can be retrofitted depending on your needs. I'm not exactly sure when their product cycle begins. But they should have something within the next year.

Re: Yakima Roof Rack for FJ

I think some of the Yakima attachments will fit on the Toyota rack. Others have already done this. I am waiting for them to make a removable rack though. The stock Toyota rack is too high for my parking ramp at work.

I just installed the YAKIMA Low Rider Max with the C-2 Claws. Works perfectly.

I then put the Load Warrior on top of the YAKIMA bars and it looked too high and busy, so I simply put the Load Warrior on top of the factory cross bars.

Be sure to specify the C-2 Claws. They grip around the round factory rails.

Re: Yakima Roof Rack for FJ

I'll try. It will be a day or so before I will have the chance. Then, I'm not sure how to go about it, but I'll try.

I also think the Universal MightMounts will work. That's what they show working for the X-Terra and the same company designed both racks. REI is running a sale until the 14th with 20% off of all Yakima products. I am going to try to get over there and see if they have any of the Universal MMs to try. I will report back when I do.

I used the Yakima X towers to mount racks on my stock FJ towers. You can see pictures of my set up in my member picture gallery (Mtbcoach)
