I've seen this before. And I actually bought a three pack 7 months ago and ended up installing them over my work bench.

Time to buy some more...

Thanks Tony!!
4XX4, I'm really afraid of cutting things or pulling things that are fragile so this was a mod that I can deal with. I'm considering modding one of them with amber lens and put it near the mirror. I might just spray paint it :P

timbo. bastage I say, bastage!

Although they use a lot of batteries, they will last a long time. I wouldn't bother wiring them up. That would defeat the simplicity of these pucks. If they last 10 hours each, and you use them for 3 min a day, you'll get 6 months out of these.
Yes, that's true, I agree about the simplicity factor of these pucks. If however than CAN be wired without too much trouble, then they would ad some serious convenience: like for example turn on when the doors are opened. It's too bad that my knowledge of electricity in general is so severely lacking, otherwise I would have done it. It is much more likely for me to do the exact mod you list here, so thanks for the post.

Re: Cheap and fast interior lighting improvement

Komombo, I know what you mean about electricity. It would be nice if it can be linked to the door. There are LED kits that would fit inside of the stock lights. Those would be a simple solution. I might add those later. They are around $25.

Just a note: If those 3 batteries are in series, They put 4.5 volts across the LEDs. Wiring to your 12v car batt. wouldn't work without a resistor to drop another 7.5 volts. But I'm not sure if LED filaments would blow out like a conventional one would.

Without the drop down resistor, they actually would get very hot and blow out like a real bulb. I tried that on a mod for a paintball gun, and fried the LEDs. A friend of mine then taught me the value of resistors.

Re: Cheap and fast interior lighting improvement

For the back seat passengers. Same lights, quicler install. Took longer to walk around to each side then it did to install these. They make a fine addition to your front map lights.

"5 Minute Mod - Interior Backseat Light Addition"

Let us know how they hold up. I haven't had good luck in other vehicles using HD velcro to attach things to the headliner. They eventually come down. Especially on brutally hot days. I guess you could punch 2 holes in the headliner and use 1 pin each just like the rears for a more secure fastening system.

Re: Cheap and fast interior lighting improvement

DEWFPO, I used velcro AND the screw. Very tight. I've conversed with FJ4Mee before and he just carried this even further. I might go with Ozonium later, but for now, this cheap set of lights is working. I rarely sit in the back anyway.

Re: Cheap and fast interior lighting improvement

Yeah, I guess if your careful, you can get a decent bite from that screw in the thick headliner. Nice job.

I should probably refrain on stating that they are "tight" until I've done a few trail runs or jarring rides and see how they hold up.

I opted to use both velcro AND the screw.
Not clear as to how you mounted the screw? Did you drill into the headliner?
