Interior / Exterior Visual TechThis section contains discussion related to visual modifications of the Toyota FJ Cruiser. Some items might include dash kits, roof rack modifications and other visual modifications.
I received my ladder from Gobi a couple of days ago, and installed it in less than 20 minutes. This is a well-made, solid product and definately worth the 300 bucks. The stealth rack is next.
$1500 + $ for whatever Yakima mounting options is ridiculous! I have $$ but if I wanted to waste money on Hummer type accessories, I would have bought a Hummer.

Nice try Gobi...
If you are looking for something to use for Yakima accessories only I see you point but if you actually use your rack for more then a mounting point Gobi is light years ahead of the Toyota one.
e-mailed to GOBI. No response yet and frankly I'd be surprised to get one.
"Any desire to offer up a group buy or discount to the fj cruiser forums folks?
Your product looks great but you should find a much larger market developing with the FJ than with the Hummer in the near future. However you will also likely find out that the typical hummer owner has significantly more disposable income than will the FJ owner. While your product looks and from what I hear, is an outstanding product your margin on these if sold at retail pricing has got to be sweet.
Thanks,
JB"
In other words I'd buy one complete set up (ladder, lights, shipping) for 1500, well maybe 1200. Sell a few at 2300 or a whole bunch at 1200?

Just because a company makes products for a Hummer does not mean they are taking advantage of people like Hummer does its with its in house accessory pricing and "off-road ability" claims.
We started selling Gobi products at my company because they are well made using excellent materials, and you don't get nothin' for nothin'... By the way, your FJ Cruiser costs 10 grand more than a base TJ - did you get snookered, or did you pay more for an FJ because you could see its a better vehicle made with better materials using better design ? Just a thought...

If you are interested in Gobi products at discounted prices, PM me. But if you are looking to get a product for less than it is reasonable to expect it to be sold for based on design, materials, and reputation , don't expect a response from a manufacturer - a $2300 low production set up is not going to be sold for $1200, even assuming you would be able to get a group buy coordinated.
