Re: Concealed Handgun Mount

great idea. Its better than putting it in the glove box. Imma do mine this weekend. It would mke me more comfortable to have access while im driving in case i have to hope out and take down some one.

Re: Concealed Handgun Mount

Sorry to bump an older thread, but any of you just carry it in your holster? I'm a peace officer, and I wouldn't really want to have it in plain view and have anyone, especially an officer who doesn't know who I am, roll up on me and see the butt of my gun.

Re: Concealed Handgun Mount

I'm trying to figure out where to fit the machine gun turret on mine. I really wanna pimp it out. Maybe like some chrome bullet chain holders and such. Any else do this mod?

Re: Concealed Handgun Mount

New guy, non-owner (or prospective owner), but firearms enthusiast.

If you're considering this solution, it's worth mentioning that the Serpa holsters have been having major problems with dust, sand, etc. getting into the release and locking up the holster. Depending on your area, a holster permanently mounted in the vehicle could be very prone to such issues.

and now, just to offend the antis....

Hi rob. That's interesting and a little concerning. I saw one of these holsters for the first time recently. Actually I read this thread a while back but focused on the mounting job and didn't take particular note of the holster. But my friend had one of these holsters and I was really, really impressed with the design of it. Ergonomically, your finger just falls exactly on the center of that release, and it just seemed to work really well. It has to take a lot of dirt or sand to get in there to cause that not to release, no?

Re: Concealed Handgun Mount

Eddie, I'm mostly hearing this back from guys that are returning from overseas, specifically contracting jobs.

I agree that it may require a lot of sand/grit/dirt whatever, but depending on how you use or where you drive your FJ that might not take long and/or one larger pebble could cause problems.

Personally, if I buy an FJ, I'm going to be most likely buying one of the Tuffy center console/armrest inserts, and I'd just mount a non-locking holster inside that. Something like a Blade Tech holster that also has screw holes in the back. That way the Tuffy box can also be locked if you need to leave your pistol in the car for whatever reason.
