Hey! Thats a bit harsh. My reaction was the exact opposite, as I thought: "Ahh I love Canada. I need to get back and visit." AND I raised the idea of a trip there to my GF. Im American through and through, but Canada is a great place with top notch people.
Sorry, I think you mistook my meaning. I agree that it is a great place with top-notch people (my little sister married one and I have many other Canadian friends), it's just that I wouldn't give up my right to keep and bear arms to live anywhere, no matter how beautiful. I used to live in Northern Ireland and that is among the most beautiful places on earth with absolutely the friendliest people, but I now I would not move back there either because of the outright weapons ban in the UK (and violent crime rates have soared there but that is another topic). There are some great places to live in Kalifornistan and NY and some great people there too, but it's just not worth it to me. Obviously there is a difference of opnion here. Meanwhile, I am pleased to provide much-needed mirth for morally-superior quebecois.

I love that setup, but I think I would go one step farther and make a little box lid type cover that would be hinged on the bottom with a simple magnetic latch at the top that could be swung down quickly.

Take what man makes and use it,
But do not worship it,
For it shall pass.
If to do were as easy as to know what were good to do,
Chapels had been churches, and poor mans cottages, princes’ palaces.
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.

First of all, when being pulled over, you are "REQUIRED" by law to give the officer not only your DL but also your CCW at the same time. It lets them know that you are armed. They will find out anyways when they run your tag. If you don't offer them your CCW, you risk losing your CCW.
They canot see it from the driver or passenger side windows. It's in the REAR of the vehicle guys!
...............ooooeeee
You could always move Arien
Im not sure what fj you own but i can clearly see that through my side rear window

Despite a reputation as unsafe, Northern Ireland has one of the lowest crime rates among industrialized countries. According to statistics from the U.N. International Crime Victimization Survey (ICVS 2004), Northern Ireland has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe (lower than the United States and the rest of the United Kingdom). In fact, the results of the latest ICVS show that Japan is the only industrialized country safer than Northern Ireland. Almost all visitors experience a trouble-free stay. NationMaster - Murders (per capita) (most recent) by country
I found that the glove box on the front dash will hold most of my revolvers and my Glock-26. The best fit is my .44 ruger Alaskan. It seems more accessable than something behind the consule. And, if you keep a longer barrelled revolver in the holster, it will slip snuggly between the drivers seat and the consule....although the seatbelt might impead a quick draw.
Here in western Canada we are generally more openminded on the whole firearms issue than our liberal cousins in the east.
I just recently got my firearms acquisition and possession license and purchased my first firearm. I like guns, they can be A LOT of fun, and they can also be very useful tools. But I'm also glad that the majority of people aren't carrying a gun on their belt at the supermarket. I just don't think it's necessary. I can't think of one instance in my life where I've been afraid to the point where I thought I'd be better off with a gun on my waist. If I thought I needed a gun to feel safe outside of my home that would be a signal to me to move somewhere else. Maybe I'm lucky or naive.
I do keep my firearm "handy" at home, of course it's in accordance to the law though.

It makes more sense to NOT live in places that the neighbors feel they are forced to carry handguns
You are happy where you are, I am happy where I am = win-win, a good deal for everyone all around.

From the site you linked: "The statistics cannot take into account the differences that exist between the legal definitions of offences in various countries, of the different methods of tallying, etc. Consequently, the figures used in these statistics must be interpreted with great caution. In particular, to use the figures as a basis for comparison between different countries is highly problematic."
Also, the stats appear to be no later than 1998-2000. Violent crime in the UK as a whole (particularly England) has skyrocketed since the all-inclusive gun ban there in 1997:
"Despite a ban on handguns introduced in 1997 after 16 children and their teacher were shot dead in the Dunblane massacre the previous year, their use in crimes has almost doubled to reach 4,671 in 2005-06. Official figures show that although Britain has some of the toughest anti-gun laws in the world, firearm use in crime has risen steadily."
"THE government was accused yesterday of covering up the full extent of the gun crime epidemic sweeping Britain, after official figures showed that gun-related killings and injuries had risen more than fourfold since 1998.
The Home Office figures - which exclude crimes involving air weapons - show the number of deaths and injuries caused by gun attacks in England and Wales soared from 864 in 1998-99 to 3,821 in 2005-06. That means that more than 10 people are injured or killed in a gun attack every day."
Note these sources are British newspapers, not right-wing gun blogs in this country.
