Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

The nylon tools from Harbor Freight were on sale for $3.99 when I went there last night.

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

I found this...

Front door handle removal and install:
1) Open the door and remove the black plastic plug on the door jamb.
2) Loosen the gold colored Torx fastener that is behind the plug, by using a #30 Torx bit. The Torx fastener will not come out completely, or fall into the door, because it has a retainer clip which holds it in place.
3) You should now be able the pull the lock mechanism out.
4) Carefully take a small flat screw driver and pry the plastic lock cover off.
5) Slide the front part of the handle back and out.
6) Insert the new door handle into the opening of the door, slide it forward, and into position.
7) Snap the new lock cover onto the lock mechanism.
8) Insert the lock mechanism into the door, and tighten the Torx fastener (not too tight).
9) Front door handle swap complete!

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

I'm a little confused as to which part numbers to order. I THINK I'm supposed to order two of the handles (692100-C010) and two of the handle covers (69217-0C010). But isn't the passenger door cover different than the drivers door cover? Is it a different part number?

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

On the Tundra the passenger door cover has no opening for the key. You can order two of the drivers side covers they fit either side or you can order one with key opening for drivers door and one with out for passanger door.

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

I don't know if this has been answered, but what kind of finish is on the handles? Does it match the plastic fenders?
