I ordered both sides with NO KEY HOLE. Can you elaborate on the comment of "DO NOT REINSTALL THE KEY MECHANISM?" Once I get it out will this part be obvious? Will they not go back in if I don't remove some part? It was my understanding that that part was just a swap of the cover, which shouldn't effect anything to do with the locking mechanism.

Any chance anyone has pics of the NO key hole install?
It will be obvious when you get the screw out, the locking mechanism is the thing that will pull out and have the old silver cover with a hole on it... just be warned that you won't be able to use your key if you may need it.

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

Am I crazy in thinking that if i do not use the piece that the new black cover snaps on to....the new black piece will have to float in mid air, with nothing to snap on to?

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

I have no key hole for both sides.
worst case scenario, unlocking rear door with key will also unlock both driver and passenger door. hope that helps.

Ues the force, Luke!

DOH! Yea, it needs the mount on the outside, there is actually a "drive shaft" for a lack of the proper term that can be removed though.

You removed the little "drive shaft" thingy? on both sides?

I'm going to hope I change my keyless entry battery before it runs out...and use the rear door in worse case scenario

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

INSTALLING "NO KEY HOLE" BLACK DOOR HANDLES

When installing the no key hole version it has been noted that you need to remove the locking mechanism (aka draft shaft like piece) from the old key hole. In writing that sounds like you still use some portion of the "old" unit and snap the new black hole-less cover on. If you go "no hole" you are COMPLETELY removing the old locking unit and ONLY installing the new black unit. Unlike the black piece with the hole which is a snap on. It should be a no brainer once you have the black piece but I wanted to clarify in writing if anyone is confused prior to receiving parts.

3 min swap each side. Hardest part is getting off the little black plastic cap to get the the screw!!

Re: Experiment: Blackout door handle using Tundra handle covers

Oh man I'm the biggest clown on Earth! I just found an old for sale ad on the forums for the black handles asking for an offer. So I hit up the guy and offered him $75 shipped on the two handles. Why? because I come from Mercedes modding, where everything is super expensive! I was gonna offer him $50 shipped at first but thought that wasn't enough so I said $75 lol. Oh well, live and learn
