Re: SPOTLIGHT (Post-Mounted): Installation w/ lots of pics!!

Hey Playdrive, your spotlight installation turned out really nice!! (Matter of fact, your pictures are the first (other than mine) that I've seen posted on the forum.)

Anyway, it sure looks nice on a Titanium, and I'm glad this thread was a help to ya.

This is awesome! Maybe someday I'll have the cajones to do this mod. Excellent detail in the write-up too.... it doesn't get any clearer than that.

This makes it all worth while, doesn't it?

I could never have done this myself, that's for sure!

A plus I wasn't expecting is it's awesome at lighting up behind you when you're backing up!

I can't tell everyone enough about how awesome this forum is! I get so many ideas off of it. Hopefully I'm doing my share of trying to return some!
Props to you too... great job!

Re: SPOTLIGHT (Post-Mounted): Installation w/ lots of pics!!

I've seen these types of lights roof-mounted, mainly on utility trucks.

I wonder if there's enough sheet metal in the roof...

hmm.... <picture a thought bubble above the head>

Yep, I've seen those frequently as well. But, I'm suspecting that the FJ's roof sheet metal might be too flexible to allow a sturdy mounting up there. The screws on the spotlight's mount really need a nice hard (and thick) surface to "bite" into.

Plus, the (10"-12") handle of the spotlight coming down through the roof has to appear somewhere inside the FJ, and it might not be the most convenient interior protrusion to live with.

(And of course, one would still run the risks of roof leaks if the mount isn't perfectly sealed. )
