trim panels rattle

when i turn my base up the interior trim panels rattle and drive me craaaaaaazzzy! I woudl like to know if these trim panels just pop off and of so what is the best way to do it. I have the basic black plastic trim panels (not the painted ones to match the color of the fj). I just dont want to try and pop something off to add some sound dampening in there just to find out there not ment to pop and accidently break them off.

Re: trim panels rattle

Dynamat the panels and the metal behind them. They are held in by push pins and a few screws.

Hey, I live in Ormond Beach, as well, and my FJ is a 4X4 Sun Fusion, too!

Re: trim panels rattle

I dynamatted the door metal, but my panels still vibrate. So, you might want to dynamat the panels themselves and see what that does.

there are two screws. one behind the door latch lever and the other behind the round door handle. then there is one alien head that is in the front area of the door panel. be gentile and push the center of it in with a blunt phillips screwdriver. (all the screws are phillips heads). then once those three things are out, the only thing that is holding the door in are some clips. if you want to be extra careful you can use a panel popper. below is the set is use. the main one that i use is all the way on the right. it can be had for probably 12-13 bucks. but if you take your time and dont pull hard you can start at the lower edge by the speaker and pull gently. pull straight out with even pressure. from there it will be a piece of cake. once all of them are out, lift slightly and it will come right off. disconnect the cables for the locking mechanism and door handle. then disconnect your door lock and power window harness.

i dynamatted my entire door. the inner layer is mostly done, and the outer layer is completely covered. i run a super nasty mid in the door and a super nasty bas setup and dont get any rattles in the inside.

Man. Every time I do one of my vehicles I wish I had some of those poppers. I have gotten pretty creative over the years with coat hangers, dull tin snips, leather punches, and wire strippers I glued at 30 degrees open. I think I even have a dentist pic for taking off screw access tabs.

I have my Tacoma down to the metal. Although my air tools saved a crap load of time with the seats.

Nice.

Re: trim panels rattle

for dissassembling a new car, the best tools i own are those and my panel poppers, miniature awl pick set, bright ass 30 some odd LED with about a 20 hour life on the rechargable battery, and standard size awls.
